  1. I thought Roger was a Steak and Potatoes kinda guy, in fact I thought I read where he's allergic to chicken!
  2. No, I had to go year by year on attendance vs. capacity on the leagues stat sight, the numbers are a bit skewed in the interface between stadiums, with the two years at smaller college stadiums. But it shows the trend. People need to realize, Bud Adams' makes Jerry Jones' ego look small in comparison, on top of the fact that he is an absolute prick. I had many dealings with him in my years with Texaco. He owns Gulf-mark Industries, and he is a real piece of crap from a business standpoint. He is more crooked than a North Shepherd used car dealer. He's always been all about him, and that's it. He can't even spell the word loyalty. The best the H-town ever did was let that SOB ride off into the sunset. So he took away the beloved Oilers, oh well, you got to break a few eggs if you want to make an omelet. Bob McNair has made some bad judgements by getting involved with Charley Casserly, but he's toast and that's history, now comes the recovery phase. Gary's plate is so full, I don't know how he sleeps at night.

  4. Or if you watched Drew Brees hand the Cowboys their butts. Sean Payton insisted he wasn't trying to prove anything to Bill Parcells but I think he showed his old boss he payed attention while interning under the Tuna. Last time Drew Brees was in Texas Stadium he won the Texas State 5A Championship for Austin Westlake High School, finishing the year 16-0 and the State MVP. Bush had a good game and Karney was great scoring his first 3 NFL TD's in one game. NO is on a mission. Sean Payton showed a lot of class taking a knee on the 4 yd line instead of running up the score even more!
  5. 3RD QUARTER HOU TD Ron Dayne, 2 Yd run (Kris Brown kick is good), 9:26. Drive: 10 plays, 73 yards in 5:34. TENN TD Travis Henry, 9 Yd run (Rob Bironas kick is good), 1:49. Drive: 5 plays, 63 yards in 2:41. 4TH QUARTER HOU FG Kris Brown 49 Yd, 12:00. Drive: 7 plays, 11 yards in 2:49. TENN TD Travis Henry, 2 Yd run (Rob Bironas kick is good), 3:53. Drive: 15 plays, 88 yards in 8:07. HOU FG Kris Brown 46 Yd, 2:09. Drive: 6 plays, 33 yards in 1:44. OT TENN TD Vince Young, 39 Yd run, 11:14. Drive: 5 plays, 57 yards in 3:46. I don't think anything that happened in the first half had anything to do with the outcome, the key was the second half and execution of putting it in the end zone.
  6. Did Houston trade the entire OL this week? It looks like a different crew out there? They're firing off the ball and hitting their blocks!!!!
  7. Pull your boot straps up boys, 30 minutes till the showdown! > >
  8. Yes it was the 1971 Space City 300, Mr H basically paid off Bill France to run that race there out of his own pocket, he was pulling out all stops to promote the track. Meyerland was his baby, and he'd have sold his soul to help the track, rumor was he did make a deal with the devil on a couple of occasions. Seem to me the last races held there were in 1978 I may be wrong on that. This ole boy here is Kent Lewis Sr. Believe it or not he is still racing ASCS Sprint cars in the Gulf South Region. He's pushing seventy. Real Good people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Couldn't get the Texans game up here in Wyoming, but did watch one hell of a Cowboy game, they now have a two game lead in the NFC East. Gramatica made a clutch last second field goal to win it 23-20. Caught part of the Saints game, Bush had 4 touchdowns, the Saints are rolling pretty good. Glad the Texans pulled it off, whatever it takes a win is a win. Wish I could have got the Titans game up here, that had to be a good game beating the Colts. Looking at the game board looked like a lot of interceptions and fumbles from both sides. Oh well great games in the NFL this week end. Texas teams kicked ass even the ex-Texas teams and the neighbor over on the Big Muddy. Have to admit Romo can pull it off in the clutch....
  10. This is Ed "Mr. H" Hamblen and George Nash . Nash was a local promoter, and Mr. H was the President of the N.A.R.L. and ran the track. Some of the local help around Meyerland
  11. I have a ton of stuff on Meyer Speedway, spent many many nights there racing. Have a lot of photos, but don't want to tie up a bunch of bandwidth if no one's interested. One of the local Heroes that made the big time. Texas Terry Labonte, who just retired from a long NASCAR career this year. Was privileged enough to be at the retirement ceremony at TMS this November and Terry was as humble and gracious as always. Was able to talk with him for a few minutes, And gave him a copy of this B&W in an 8x10, and got quite a laugh out of him. This picture was taken around 1975 there in the pits at Meyer Speedway.
  12. Here are photos taken at the old Meyer speedway grounds earlier this year
  13. This whole stadium location is hilarious. Sounds like a schoolyard argument between two kids. It's not that unusual to build in the suburbs, some even in another state. If that's the best my dog is bigger than your dog argument you can come up with, you should really be proud. Wait I hear the Ice Cream truck coming, happy days are here again. The Detroit Lions play in Pontiac, MI. The NY Giants and the NY Jets play in East Rutherford, New Jersey, The Phoenix Cardinals Play in Tempe, AZ. The Washington Redskins play in Landover, Maryland. The Buffalo Bills play in Orchard Park, NY.
  14. Yeah yeah yeah and in 1962 the Dallas Texans beat the Houston Oilers 20-17 in double overtime for the AFL Championship, if you are gonna tell the story tell it all.
  15. I myself being an Aggie to the bone, have a big enough pair to admit Young is a great player. Not one time did he ever lead the NCAA in passing, not even in the top ten, but you know what he is known for? Leading his team to a National Title, up against arguably the best of the rest that the NCAA had to offer. When the SWC was in place it wasn't near as tough as it is in the Big 12 now to dominate your conference. I say this in all sincerity, the SWC wasn't a drop in the bucket to the Big 12 as far as stiff competition. For years the SEC has been the toughest row to hoe, but with the merger of the Big 12 there is now another tough conference to survive in. UT dominated the big 12 as well as the rest of the NCAA, and Young was a huge part of that. He wasn't a high rated passer, he just won games. He took charge of the field and led his team to victory. That is the bottom line is win. The BS cliche' about "it's not if you win or lose, it's how you play the game" is so much BS. It's winning and nothing else, winning is what puts you in the championship, and winning is how you win the championship. That's it plain and simple. They don't give out these for playing the game well, they hand them out for winning: Hey Semipro, you got one of these? And when it's all said and done you sometimes get one of these: Now on the other hand, there have been athletes that dominated the NCAA and never really did well in the NFL, (i.e. Archie Griffin, Ross Browner, Desmond Howard, Andre Ware, George Rogers, etc etc etc.) Sometimes things just don't click. Dan Marino led the league almost every year in passing yards. Has career completion percentage of 59.4% and a career passing efficiency rating is 86.4, but no Superbowl ring. A lot of the times stats mean squat, stats have their purpose when doing comparisons, but there is no stat for leadership skills, that's just something you can't measure. You can see the results of it on the field and most of the time it is reflected on the scoreboard, but it is something that I do not think can be taught. There are leaders and there are followers. Leaders are born that way. Now Carr can win football games, everyone has seen that. He lead his team well in college. His transition to the NFL has been marred by a lot of factors. IMHO Casserly was the worst move the Texans ever made. I was no fan of him at Washington, and never will be. Somehow he has managed to make thus far in the NFL, I for the life of me can't see how. Carr has been hamstrung from the beginning, with poor management decisions around him. But things seem to be making progress in the right direction, there is just a ways to go. But he is going to have to step it up, because his value to the team dwindles the longer it takes him to step it up to the next level. His shelf life more than likely expires within the next two years if he doesn't show some serious improvement, in the field generalship area, he's gone. His teamates have to believe in him or it will never work out, no matter what. But it's also going to take about 6 or 7 key players to be influxed into the lineup, to shore up the weak spots and elevate the remaining Texans to play at the next level. One of the greatst field generals to ever take a snap, had very limited athletic abilities. Some of it do to injuries, some of it due to physical make up. But when you got in the huddle with Johnny Unitas you knew you could win the ball game. He hobbled around in high tops cleats, that were nothing short of combats boots with cleats on bottom. Bad knees, sore aging arm and he still took the field as the best of the best. Too soon to stick a fork in Carr, but the blood is in the water, and the sharks are circling. They have got to get a big time receiver, and tight end that can block as well as catch the 3rd and long, a Jay Novacek type. They need a couple of dominant lineman to stop they all out rush on Carr. And Carr is gong to have to learn to move around more. And I still feel the Texans need a big game back, I just don't see that in Lundy or the others. I think the Defense has more than is being seen. They need a Roy Williams type of player in the Secondary, And some corners than can play better man to man coverage. Then they can blitz more, which will get some of the double and triple off of Williams. I think they have pretty solid linebackers, just not much line to back. Kubiak has a plate full to deal with, but I think Gary will do fine. Anyone who thinks Gary is a pressbox coach, knows nothing about Gary Kubiak. He's the nicest guy till you piss him off, and he can be as tough as they come. Give him a chance to turn the Texans around, I think he can do it, if manangement leaves him alone to do what he does best, Coach!
  16. One has to admit VInce showed that he has the field generalship that it takes to make it in the NFL. Just an instance when a veteran receiver was not improvising his route correctly, Vince gestured to him in no uncertain terms to pay attention and "Look at me". That's the leadership coming out in him. A player can have a rocket launcher arm run a 9.0 100 yd dash and not make it because he's weak inside the helmet. I think this kid has got the right stuff. He never got rattled with 12:13 left in the game, down 21 points and went to work and took care of business. Yes the Giants blew a lot of plays and gave them the opportunity to win, but they still had to make good of those opportunities which they did. He gets an A+ this week for sure, and it's only going to get better. Kubiak has so much on his plate that needs attention immediately, it's hard to single out anyone here. It's just going to take time, like it or not, it's not going to happen overnight, it's just that bad. There is going to have to be some crafty trades made and some great draft picks made. Let's quit bitchin' about who was a better draft pick last year, the cards have been dealt. You can bet your ass Kube drafts a high impact player in the next draft, someone to get the spark going, they will also hit the free agent market heavy. Wouldn't be surprised to see a big name receiver hit the roster soon. It's just a FUBAR at the moment and that's a fact. I watch the Titans mainly because I am a big fan of Jeff Fisher. I think he is a highly under rated coach. I like Vince Young because he just comes across as a really good kid that will take his lumps like a man and pick himself up and make it better next time. I'm just still trying to get a warm fuzzy feeling for Carr. I just don't get a confident feeling with him, maybe it's just me. I just don't get any sense of toughness out of Carr, and toughness is something you've got to have. He reminds me of Danny White, White was fundamentally a solid quarterback, but lacked the toughness of a true leader. White put up the numbers, he just could never finish it. Carr gives me that feeling. I may be wrong, and I hope I am, the Texans have a lot tied up in him, and I am afraid if they were to try and trade him, they'd get squat, there's not a lot to bargain with. It's kinda like buying that sports car you thought you needed, and it's depreciating daily, and the trade in sucks. You upside down on the payments and you just got to tough it out. There's no lemon law in the NFL.
