Watching the ever changing Landscape of my Hometown of Pasadena,Texas. Our Ethnic makeup has changed a great deal in the last 10 years, and with that change also comes Architecural changes as well. City Government and how it works for or against me.
  1. I had sought repeatedly every now and then, to find the recording of the channel 11 End of Broadcasting Day. I mainly remember a male singer with a great voice. I never thought to check in here with y'all. I used love staying up late enough just to listen to that wonderful song.
  2. Nathan, I grew up a block away from some of your aunts and uncles that lived on Harrop St. Dr. B as we called him delivered me into this world July 1956. and was Our families doctor. I have lived thru all the stories of your Grand father, but knew the gentler side of him. I remember I December of 1976 that I almost killed myself trying to Locate Dr. B. my sister was in a bad way delivering her 1st child. I drove like a madman to his home behind the Old Woolco store. I later found out that he was driving all the way in from San Antonio to help save my sister's life. I know all the Bad , but He was a Man we all Loved and Respected. He even refused to accept his doctor fee from Momma for any of Our doctor visits. Thought I would share with you something kinder than what you had to live thru. Dr. B. had his Demons but he once was a Kind Hearted Man / Family Doctor as well.
  3. A post from a Pasadena Facebook Citizen. " Mark Wright 9 hrs Just received an email from the Bay Area Houston Business Development Update: Pasadena Economic Development Corporation purchased a former bank building on the corner of Pasadena Blvd. at Southmore Blvd. and plans to demolish the building and sell the 4.8-acre site. The 12-story building was built in 1962. It will take approximately four months for the remediation and the demolition." The Tall Lady of Pasadena " Texas has been declared an eyesore and is slated for demolition, after the Asbestos has been removed. I am going to Miss her.
  4. I have a senior friend that lives in a very nice gated senior community [ Bellvilla ] on Scarsdale in Pearland bought hers 3 or 4 years ago for $125,000 Clean quiet has walk path around manmade ponds with fountains, clubhouse community pool, light up for christmas, U S Flags displayed proudly on holidays.
  5. Ride on a Metro Bus from Townsquare Mall into H Town how cool is that, it will be on Harris street as it once was back in the early 70's when we had a line that took you downtown to the Greyhound terminals. I think I like the idea, after driving out to 290 last month to the the appraisal district offices I'll plan a metro trip for next year's fight, those freeways scare me to death. Not really but the Bumps on hwy 610 loop made my old 81 F-250 feel every one of those Painful Bumps, my fingers were glued to the steering wheel for that trip.
  6. Ouch those comments about Pasadena HURT! As a citizen of Pasadena since 1956 yes I still live here, Your hometown is full of memories and Family and Friends. For all of you snobs over in H Town if it were not for Pasadena, Channelview,Baytown,La Porte............. were would you all be ? The Champion/Simpson/Pasadena Papermill is no longer a threat to your health or delicate noses. Our Family came to Pasadena,Texas in 1947 as a part of that Papermill's expansion. Pasadena has many old and beautiful neighborhoods in the northside which is comprised of 100,000 plus residents of our 150,000 population. We feel we have been put on a back burner for far too many years by city officials that broke more promises that they kept [90%] in several decades. To insult Our town with Stink lines is cruel, every community in America has to contribue it's fairshare to develope and fuel this country, Doctors,Lawyers,Masons,Electricians,Refinery Techs,Ditch Diggers..................you take the good with the bad. Many folks around here wish we had a perfect plan for survivial but Houston is just a Older bigger Pasadena so get over yourselves and be more consructive and a little less destructive with your opinions in here. If you all want to really help us be more pleasing to your Eyes and sinus system we could levy a special TAX from H Town and surrounding beautiful people areas to fund our Beauty Makeover so to speak, a sort of share the wealth TAX. Limited income senior and families and tenants of slumlords don't have the resources to improve the properties they live in and since Ike hit many are still in recovery mode, the Blue Roofs are Proof of needs unmet by Insurance providers. "Can't we all just get along?"
  7. Yes in deed Our Tall Lady of Pasadena is in Danger. Hurricane Ike has put this beautiful structure one giant step closer to a wrecking ball. A Friend on Pasadena City Council informed me that the Bank Tower has changed hands once more. With our current economic worries clouding our minds, saving great architecture opens the door & makes way for another fast food joint. I have voiced at City Council meetings countless times that something needs to be done at the cities level to protect our architectural Past for Our Future, as have many others.
  8. I have been meaning to talk to City Councilmember JJ Isbell, he has spoken to me several time about how the Firm that owns the 1st Pasadena State Bank Building wanted to Restore and reopen. I fear this damage will push him toward tearing her down or he might be able to get hold of some FEMA money, to pay for Demolition.
  9. Way back in the early 70's My Uncle and Oldest Brother and Sister worked various jobs on the Battleship TEXAS. I remember on year my whole family were allowed to ride out a Hurricane aboard the USS Texas, I slept in the Trophy Room right under the location that infamous Torpedo breached the hull, the one that did not blow. Moving the Old Girl would be a really bad move the Ship channel water is far less corrosive that that salt water at Galveston would be. Leave her Be and get on to more important matters .....................
  10. Hope this helps you as to what thet are intended to be used for. Kind of a cool Idea Large Presidential Statues to Anchor Texas Destination Mixed-use Development Presidential Park at WaterLights, featuring large-scale 18-foot statues of all 42 U.S. presidents, is projected to draw 2 million people annually to a new entertainment/real estate development in the city of Pearland. The presidential busts will be surrounded by pleasant water features and a navigable canal, said Richard Browne, principal of Historic Land Development LLC of Houston.
  11. Oh My, why build something so big so blasted close to the road. Stucco in the houston area, not a good thing. Too much Security fence no one in their right mind is gonna steal that house.
  12. Thank You ISSA you captured so many beautiful homes of Galveston and one of my favorites The Bishops Palace. Thank You again. If I ever win a Big Lotto Texas I am Gonna Buy her and move in.
  13. The Old Pasadena Dog Pound Site on Hwy 225 before you get to Beltway 8, still has an Original Refinery Logo on it and is also sporting the old sage green paint that once was a signature city color.
  14. Great Photos, Thank You for Sharing them with us all I sure am Proud to see so many other folks that Love This Graceful Lady of Pasadena as much as I do. The Resigned former Mayor of Pasadena, John Manlove, could not be moved to answer my questions about what was in the Future for the Bank Building. I was told by Council Woman Dana Philibert that the Chamber of Commerce could better answer my concerns but that was a dead end. I will make a point of asking our new Mayor Jack Douglass, at our next Council Meeting. The developer that bought the former Bankone Location has just barely maintained the Landscape. I hope someone has it in the works to revitalizing the Building. Our Skyline won't be be the same without her, my Vote is for City Hall to move in and Save Our Tall Lady of Pasadena.
  15. Well Thank You for the merge,I had misplaced the location of this original Thread. I finally found out how to add my photo file to e-mails ( new Camera No Skills ) How do you all add your photos as a picture and not as a few words and numbers to download. I want to add more but I only have 90.65k left to use for photos. Have a Great Day Folks ,Come on Over to the Dark Side and Visit 2nd largest city in Harris County,Pasadena,Texas Your Neighbors South East Harris County Population 149,000 plus >
