  1. My thing is; While the new restaurants are cool and all, what ever happened to the supposed retail district they were talking about a few years back. Are those plans DOA now?
  2. Last time i checked , Dallas and Houston downtown resident population was about the same. Just because Dallas has more cranes doesn't mean more residents. Alot of what they're doing is overbuilding their office space in the Uptown/Victory areas at the cost of the CBD.
  3. When i sent my letter to the Mayor back in May, he forwarded it to Robert Eury who is president of Central Houston. If anyone wants to send a letter, try sending a copy to both the Mayor's Office and a copy to Robert Eury of Central Houston. Here are the addresses, hope this helps! For Central Houston: Phone #(713)223-2003 Robert Eury 909 Fannin Suite 1650 Houston, TX 77010 For Mayor's Office: Phone # (713)247-2200 Bill White PO Box 1562 Houston, TX 77251-1562 grey
  4. Yes, i lived in Denver for a while and noticed the big influx of retail and urban activity that the Denver Pavilions initiated. Now there are people walking up and down 16th Street Mall almost every day and it's like an Outdoor Mall basically. I have to say, if the city denies these developers the opportunity, i'm just going to hang up all my hopes for Houston. I might even cry!!! grey
  5. these are the truest of words! grey
  6. Interesting. I was wondering when we would start to see the American Apparell stores opening that have been talked about all year. I hope the Houston Pavilions project will actually happen to help aide the success of these businesses. grey
  7. not to mention the ugly orange/brownish brick of the Four Seasons hotel across from the Houston Center. It frustrates me that none of these buildings feel they need to update themselves into the look of the 21st century.
  8. greatly appreciate it DJ. Good lookin' out!
  9. Do you have any renderings? I can't quite create a picture of how that might look but it sounds cool
  10. this is somewhat good news. i hope they make parking more convienient than they do in the Medical Center. It frustrates me how the Medical Center is layed out, it's so inconvieient with the parking issue. Basically, you'd better have money for parking in times of an emergency or YOU WILL DIE.
  11. I agree but it does look better and appeals more at night rather than drab boring lighting. That's just me, i'm a fan of nightlit skylines. I think it's important to have that as well as a great day skyline.
  12. i called the number listed on the website and asked the lady who answered the phone if the project was really going to happen. She almost bit my head off and said, "Off course it'll happen!" She said there's going to be plenty of variety including House of Blues. Estimated time for completion: 2007. I'm just like the next guy, I hope this isn't one of many other Houston projects that fall through but let's hope for the best!
  13. Metro Matt, you are so right. If Houston was able to have corporate names and logos on top, it would help Houston's night skyline and it wouldn't look so plain and generic. And yes, shame on the Exxon Mobil building for changing their lights at top back to white. I was very disappointed when i first noticed them changing back several weeks ago. Now that building sticks out like a sore thumb at night.
  14. just to let you guys know, i managed to get 50 signatures on the petition for better lighting allready. Do you guys think that might be enough?
  15. I'm not sure what you meant by that comment but by the way it sounds, i'm quite offended!
  16. i like the rockets and all. but sometimes they get me mad enough to not want to watch them again. They could be 15 points ahead in the game and all of a sudden lose momentum and allow the opposing team to catch up and win the game. The Rockets should never go out like that! I don't care if it is in the regular season.
  17. so what now? Houston's not going to have a greyhound station downtown anymore?
  18. hopefully the above website will be of some help on how to go about getting the petition to city council and what the guidelines and procedures are. I know i'm going to mail a copy of the petition to the address listed. I'm working on getting a list of signatures of my own though. I love to help in political projects like these.
  19. ALRIGHT FOLKS! Check out this website i found. You all might already know about it but check it out anyway, it's pretty neat http://www.houstontx.gov/council/about.html
  20. absolutely love it. But why does it seem like downtown Houston is the only city that worries so much about a light bill? I mean, aren't most of these multi-million dollar corporations? Can't they afford it? Seriously.
  21. You know who's city's skyline does a good job in lighting without being too gaudy or flashy? Denver Colorado. If Houston MUST be laid back, maybe it needs to try more relaxing colors in the skyline. The Continental Tower, Wells Fargo are pretty relaxing and now the Exxon Mobil now that it's using the blue lights on top now. I definitely agree with you on this one about how christmas lighting can ruining the festive feel for christmas time year round. IT also cheapens the skyline at night. I just say if you don't want to do the lighting technique right, don't do it at all.
  22. My bad i didn't mean for it to come out like that. If that came across as offensive, i apologize. But on the other hand, I thought this was your project because you are the one with all the access to the files and numerous signatures, but i would love to help so let's all GET THIS THING OUT.
