  1. Wow not only is this plan an insult to the academic prowess and reputation of the university, it is a lazy excuse of modernization!

what would have been great is if Rice didn’t hire a NY firm to do the landscaping, but hire something super local and aware of the prestige associated with RU.

does rice have a bunch of money they are wasting? What is honestly wrong with the timeless formality of what they have in the MAIN QUAD! Is it not a testament to the great design of 1920 that many of us in the business of design prefer the original!?

    God this is awful.

Wolfgang Puck's restaurant isn't opening at 2412 Washington Ave. Third Coast Seafood is a local restaurant (or bar). I'm thinking it may be a mix of Shell Shack and Social Junkie rolled into one (i.e. a restaurant and club/lounge.)

If you google "Third Coast Restaurant" it is linked to Wolfgang Puck III. If Third Coast Restaurant isn't the same as Third Coast Seafood - then there may be some legal challenges

Why are you certain it is not related?

As a resident of the First Ward and a member of the First Ward Civic Council,  I'm surprised to see this.  I personally support the proposed rail consolidation plan 100%, and I haven't seen any effort to oppose it in any of our council meetings.  The more density and investment that we see in the area, the more it makes sense to me to eliminate the rail on Winter St and convert it into another rails-to-trails hike and bike path.

I am a resident of 6th Ward and I think combining rail lines into the center street line and removing winter street line would be absolutely the best thing for the area. Winter Street could be a very nice Street / trail combo like Nicholson is in Greater Heights.

Based on the TDLR filing, I imagine this has to do with the i45 rebuild. I hope this means that those huge parking lots around the area get consolidated into this one parking structure and the rest of that prime, downtown-adjacent land gets turned into something good (ideally parks or high density mixed-use)

This has little to do with i45 rebuild and much more to do with their current facilities are completely dated, prone to flooding, and sitting on valuable land earmarked for mix-use facilities. They own the warehouses off washington ave and it makes total sense for them to renovate them. Lets count all that is happened on this 17 acre site once discussed as a potential Justice-Complex:

    1. City prison moved to city/county facility off San Jacinto in 2018 (not 100% sure of that date)

    2. Large police parking garage demolished in 2022

    3. Central Dispatch to be moved to Morin Pl renovated facility- ETA 2025

    4. Municipal Courts moved to TBA location. (either on a sliver of the land they own off Washington Ave - near where the garage once sat - or downtown Houston)
