  1. Plat filed for the eastern half of lot that currently has the office building containing the Maritime museum and Andes Cafe on 2311 Canal St., so only the portion currently empty is covered. This entire property along with the one across the street bounded by Canal, Navigation, Runnels and the RR are owned by Midway (listed as KBRN on HCAD, same as East River). Both are highlighted in the attached picture. Judging by the shape I am thinking mid rise apartments, hopefully with some mixed use fronting Navigation. Anyone have additional info? Could this be the start of a larger "Gateway to the East End" project comprising both properties.
  2. WOMH for White Oak Music Hall. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/article/Chicago-developer-to-build-apartments-near-White-15534163.php
  3. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2023/07/26/roseate-beach-community-galveston-development.html "The plan for the community, to be named Roseate Beach, calls for 172 homesites, including 22 beachfront lots, on a total of 60 acres. Mehos’ company for the development is Green East Realty."
  4. Did we know about this one? Just received approval for the Downtown Living Initiative. Additionally, Illinois-based Marquette Cos. is developing the other newly approved project, according to the district's documents. The 304-unit, 24-story apartment tower is planned for Block 114, bounded by Commerce, Jackson, Franklin and Chenevert streets, just a block northeast of Minute Maid Park.
  5. Downtown residential highrise's being planned by Marquette Cos. Totaling more the 350 units. But they don't stop there... http://www.bisnow.com/commercial-real-estate/houston/what-do-downtown-and-galveston-have-in-common/ Managing director Darren Sloniger tells us Downtown feels like Chicago (where he's based) did 20 years ago. (We just wish the city had a winning basketball team like Chicago did 20 years ago.) The City's new retail strategy, focus on parks, and residential incentive all point to a submarket about to take off. He's doing due diligence on a few sites, and tells us he'd like to develop a couple high-rise projects totaling about350 units Downtown. 6. OK, I'm SO not a rental apartment type of person, but the Alexan Lofts are pretty darn cool. I have a couple of friends who live there, and they seem to be high quality and very urban (unlike the new construction pseudo-lofts in other parts of downtown). Apparently, they were lofts before the management company took them over and renovated, but I'm not sure. The only major downside, apart from the lack of retail, is the proximity of the well-used train tracks. I can't imagine that those trains are quiet as they come roaring just feet from the building at all hours of the day and night. My friends say they are oblivious to the sound, but still....I guess that is why they are rentals and not individually owned. Does anyone else know of cool, not-as-well-known loft rentals? It might be good to get a list going to show that there is more to the downtown area than Post, Rice, and Calais! Travelguy_73
