What to do in Houston?

Recommended Posts

Kemah Boardwalk is always good, clean fun. Try to go early before the crowds build, but late enough that the restaurants are actually open.

Downtown Aquarium is another option, if you don't want to go all the way to Kemah.

Is there a baseball game that weekend? Minute Maid Park is a great time, even if you don't like baseball. Just sdo what I do -- stay for a few innings, have some food, soak in the atmosphere, and boogie when you're bored.

Try Hermann Park with the paddle boats, the zoo, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science with the Butterfly Museum. It's all right there, and the kids will love it.

Other museums and Rice University are within walking distance as well.

In this same area, the Museum District, is the 2nd largest Children's Museum in the nation. If you have small kids, they'll love it there as well.

There is also NASA, conveniently located near Kemah as mentioned by another poster.

Sadly the 'stros aren't in town that weekend, but you could still have fun downtown and even take MetroRail down to the Museum District from many spots along Main Street.

Have a great time!

While in the Museum District, visit the Holocaust Museum. Sometimes they have differnet special events going on there and it can be a real educational treat :) The Galleria is cool too. Also a drive through River Oaks to look at the mansions.....

Keep in mind a lot of people say they leave Holocaust museum very depressed or in tears even. Very worthwhile but tough to take for some.

Also hit the far east end of town and tour the USS Texas and the San Jacinto Monument. Kids often find big ships cool, and the monument is a good gathering place for pics and a break from the familiar vacation hustle (incidentally, from there, you can get down to Kemah/Clear Lake/Space Center Houston in about 15 minutes by taking SH 225 east to SH 146 south. Easy as pie.
