Highrise Tower
Found a photo of the Allen School located on Elgin Street and Chenevert Street. Charlotte M. Allen School was the first school in Houston to have a woman principal. The first to be named for a woman, it was the first to start a modern kindergarten; and it was the first elementary school in the city to establish manual training, and domestic science departments. The Allen School property was given to the city by Jesse H. Jones in 1906, at which tie the name of Charlotte M. Allen, wife of A.C. Allen, one of Houston's founders, was chosen for the new school. The school opened in February 1907. Lila M. Baugh was the school principal. *Note the different address in the thread title. I could never find an exact address for this building. Looking on Google Maps, Houston Academy for International Studies is in the exact same spot as the old, now demolished, Charlotte M. Allen School- 1810 Stuart Street. Edit: The address is 1810 Elgin Ave.
