Highrise Tower
I learned about the old Young Women's Co-Operative Home located on McKee Street this week. Apparently this was the YMCA for girls? Around 1913 was when the Young Men's Christian Association building in downtown was built. Breaking ground in 1913. Young Woman's Cooperative Home- First spadeful of Earth. Under construction. Young Women's Co-Operative Home, McKee and Conti Streets, soon to be done. It will harbor seventy-five inmates. Completed building and it looks awesome! I wonder the architect?

Dave W
It was apparently a Methodist institution, not related to the YMCA/YWCA. In the Internet Archive, I found references to it in the 1942-43 and 1945-46 reports of the Woman's Division of Christian Service of the Board of Missions and Church Extension of The Methodist Church. Since the residents are called inmates, I wonder if this was for "fallen women." Edited December 5, 2023 by Dave W
strickn
Very doubtful, because inmates was a generic term for someone residing in the housing of any institution, including college teachers who lived in campus housing.
