"PALACIOS — The century-old Luther Hotel hotel extended its life by at least five months after lawyers and a probate court judge agreed in a video conference Friday to push back a hearing on a restraining order.

The restraining order prohibits the demolition of the hotel, one of the terms in the sale contract between the estate of hotel owner Harold Jack Findley and the Corpus Christi-based Ed Rachal Foundation. The Luther closed last year."

"The sales contract between the estate of hotel owner Jack Harold Findley and the Corpus Christi-based Ed Rachal Foundation, which included a demolition clause, expired Aug. 31, a lawyer confirmed Tuesday.

“All offers should now be considered,” said attorney John Griffin, who represents a group of hotel employees who believe Findley’s estate failed to properly maintain the hotel following his death."

"Ann Findley Jones resigned from her position as the independent administrator of the Luther Hotel.

The court will now name a new dependent administrator, who will be responsible for preserving the hotel during its sale.

The administrator will also play a key role in evaluating the two preservation offers being finalized.

Ms. Ann Findley Jones is the sister of the owner of the Luther Hotel. In this change of leadership, the judge appointed a new dependent administrator, meaning these decisions will be made jointly as a team, with the Palacios Preservation Association being pleased with this decision."

"Margaret Doughty, co-chair of the preservation association, said the foundation terminated its contract and Findley’s heirs have said they favor preserving the hotel. Lawyers from the conservation group and the family have been in discussion with two potential buyers, including Houston businessman Nick Herman, who wants to repair and restore the structure.

“The assumption at the moment is that the offers that are being formulated are for preservation,” Doughty said. “We’re working with anybody who is interested in helping with funding for the actual restoration."
