From Swamplot: A dumpster was spotted last week loitering around the Travis St. entrance of the Mod-ish Brutal-ish teal-ish former Christian Science church downtown, which, per the language on a building permit issued this month, is now being converted into a nightclub. The name listed on the permit (Club Spire) marks something of a shift in the tone previously set by the new owners this spring, when the group connected to Clé bar sought a TABC permit for the building under the name 1720 Main Reception Hall. A curious reader sends the Friday afternoon shot above, along with an inquiry as to the fate of any interior furnishings and materials to be stripped away (the outside being fairly naked already, save for the gold-and-blue soon-to-be-eponymous spire). And if so, will it still be managed by Clé Group / Cle Group? Over the summer, 1720 Main Entities, LLC was established. It's tied to someone who's owned several Houston nightlife venues. Recently, an alcohol application filed by 1720 Main Entities, LLC seems to suggest a change in ownership at Spite. The address on the alcohol permit application is 1720 Main St. On an unrelated note: Why did a certain mod (HT) took it upon themselves yet again to merge the longtime topic for 1720 Main St that was in the downtown forum with the topic for First Church Of Christ Scientist in the Holy Places forum? The church is no longer at 1720 Main St. And since it's a club and likely will be a club for many years to come, the previous posts pertaining to the remodel of this building and the club there now should be unmerged. They should also be moved back to the downtown forum where it belongs. This mod is always merge topics with unrelated topics. The other mods don't do this.
