gardenoaksguy
I just accepted a position in the LA area and will be immigrating there in January. I think of myself as a red state refugee. There are good things and bad things about both states and cities. I have already found the people that I will be working with delightful, and have met others through friends that are equally nice. I will miss my friends in Houston, but I will not miss certain cultural aspects of the city and state. After being here for 23 years, I think I am ready for a change. Houston has changed a lot, it is much larger, less impacted by oil, and perhaps even a tad more tolerant than it was in 1982. But overall, I can't say that the quality of life has greatly improved. That being said, I don't regret any of the time I have spent here.
