How often doyou drink ? 3 beers a week, 3 beers a month ?

It's erratic. Sometimes 0 per week, sometimes 6-12 per week. Anyway I know where your going with this. I don't hold myself up as a beacon of moral virtue nor do I try to tell people how to lead a "moral" life. Mr. Bennett does. He opens himself up to charges of hypocrasy when he talks a good game and doesn't practice his "moral teachings in his own life (gambling).

I am glad that is your answer. That is exactly how I drink. NOW THEN, would you say that is a "compulsive" vice, or is it something you do in moderation ? <_< You claim that Bill was a "compulsive gambler", if he doesn't blow his kid's college tuition or winds up having to put his home up and filing for bankruptcy, do you think he might know that those extremes are "morally" wrong. I don't think the man claims to be "holier than thou". He has a talk show where he gets to spout off what he is thinking and not afraid to say it. Are you upset because he said "aborting all black babies is morally wrong." if you listen to the whole conversation, he said exactly that, as well as "it would lower the crime rate." I think the man is of the belief that it would be an outrage to commit such an act.

Bill was simply pointing out how unrealistic the caller's thinking was. Do you think it is unrealistic what Bill's answer was to him ? <_<

"But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose -- you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down,"

Yes he pointed out how unrealistic the caller thinking was. But he did say "I do know it's true" meaning a agrees with the assertion that aborting black children WOULD decrease the crime rate. Even if he is not advocating that black children should be aborted (no on ever said he did) he did assert that blacks are more prone to crime. That is where the problem with his statement lies.

There are all sorts of problems with the statement. He didn't articulate what he was trying to say, well enough. He is a person who has access to statistics, and uses them in his everyday life as a talk show host. I am positive he used his knowledge of crime rate statistics to make a valid point. It is just something that the public either refuses to hear or refuses to believe. If he had said "all white babies", how much drama do you think this would muster. (ouch, that word artculate hurt my brain) :D

I didn't say he was a compulsive gambler. I not qualified to say anyone is a "compulsive gambler". The only thing I can state is that he does gamble. I'm just saying a man that tells others what is morally right and wrong (nothing wrong with that if he is sincere) should lead by example not just talk.

And as you can see with the following post the problem with his statement has nothing to to with his statements regarding aborting black babies. No one ever thought he was advocating that.

Maury Travis...18 women

Chester Dewayne Turner... 12 people

Eddie Lee Moseley....25 people

and just like there are alot more white serial killers than what you have listed, there are alot more black serial killers also. B)

Not a prob.

And actually Bill Bennett probably misspoke. He should have just said that apologized and been done with it. But his defense of that statement makes it look like he actually believes what he said. To be fair if I had a microphone in front of me every day I shudder to think of all the "misspeaking" I would do.

This is why most people get "stage fright" So afraid of what you might say in certain company, and watching yourself in mixed company. Being PC is hard. One little thing can be blown in to cataclismic proportions. ^_^ I siad earlier that all Bill had to say was "crime statistics show." That is why he said, " I know it to be true." He had the crime statistics. BAM ! No more drama. I think he was trying to be spontaneous, and didn't think that comment through. He tripped on his EGO a little bit.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize I was "acting like" anything. I was merely pointing out that if you aborted all the white babies, crime would go down.

BTW, some estimates of Mr. Bennett's gambling losses are as high as $8 million. I draw no conclusions as to whether that is considered compulsive, only that it is more than I have in my bank account.

I'm with ya on the aborting races thing. It's just stupid, but you exchange white for black, and nobody gets offended. On a different note, "What you talkin' 'bout Willis ?" If it is indeed 8million in losses. Somebody get Bill a straightjacket, that is friggin nuts. I get worried about losin $800 at the blackjack table. Who's making these estimates ?

It seems the statement was taken out of context.

If the Media Matters quote was a evenhanded website and put his entire statment out, you'll find out he was referencing a book call Freakanomics which makes tons of crazy statistical relationships. Including the one Bennet made on abortion.

Freakanomics is not ment to push one agenda or another, its just a writer pulling all kinds of statistics (and referencing them) and making wacking conclusions. It's kind of a fun read. The book really leaves it up to you to choose whether think the points are truely related.

Bennet did state that the relationship that was make was off the wall and not something he believes. Maygbe Media Matters should try not start something that isn't there.

Also, there isn't much immoral with gambling. Back home, whole bus loads of churches (catholic) go to casinos with the priest. Gambling, as for as catholics see it, is only wrong when you use the money you need to live for gambling.

Newsweek and Washington Monthly are apparently the ones who did the research. Everyone else just repeats it.

Here's Washington Monthly.

FWIW, I don't care if Bennett lost money gambling. I don't care that Limbaugh abused painkillers. I don't care that Bush is an alcoholic and drug abuser. I am merely annoyed at those who profit on hypocrisy....and enjoy laughing at them when they are caught. Those who like Mr. Bennett, and believe him even when he is shown to be mocking those who adhere to his screeds, are free to continue listening...as well as be annoyed at my snickering.
