Bad news for renters

Recommended Posts

Although Houston is still one of the "most affordable" places in the country, many property related items are about to go up thanks to the booming economy in Houston. I've already posted this article on my Facebook page and a lot of my renting friends are distressed about this news... what do ya'll think?

Houston was hit this week with the initial tab for all of its economic good times. The Harris County Appraisal District gave its forecast for rising property values, which various municipalities, school districts and the like will use as the benchmark for this year's property tax bills.

Homeowners should see their appraised values rise by about 16 percent, the HCAD said. Office building values should increase by about 18 percent and warehouses by 14 percent. But the biggest increase will be felt by apartment complex owners, who are expected to pass the 22 percent property tax increase onto renters.
