Ongoing development with electric vehicles

A couple of major developments are expected to improve usability of electric cars in the near future.  Initial results are indicating that inductive charging holds promise and will be tested in New York City.

Toyota has announced that it expects to have solid state batteries ready for market by 2020 which will increase range on EVs to approx. 600 miles without requiring a recharge.

That's the key right there.  The battery techonolgy.  If they can make that work then the only issue is recharge time.  An idea I heard about a while ago that might help is having battery swapping centers instead of gas stations.  The idea would be to treat batteries like propane cylinders, where you ususally swap empty for full instead of refiliing them (though that is an option).
