May Day Houston Celebrates Preparedness
Wednesday, May 1 - A Day of Action

May Day Houston, sponsored by the City of Houston Community Preparedness Collaborative, is a citywide event designed to bring together Houston businesses, families, nonprofits, government agencies, large faith-based groups and individuals to focus on the things that can be done to prepare ourselves and others for disasters.

The possibilities are almost limitless, and even the smallest action makes a difference. Here are just a few suggestions:

  • Families can start building their emergency supply kit
  • Schedule a neighborhood community meeting on disaster preparedness
  • Faith-based groups can volunteer with a local nonprofit that works in disaster services or include preparedness messages in their newsletters and bulletins
  • Businesses can provide training to their employees on preparedness or offer specials on preparedness items
  • Stop by your neighborhood fire station between 5 and 8 p.m. to meet Houston Fire Department personnel and pick up preparedness information. Visit http://www.maydayhouston.org/for fire station locations

To learn how you can participate and make a Pledge to Prepare, visit http://www.maydayhouston.org/. As a community, Houstonians can work together and be ready for anything!
