El Director
Anyone have any photos of Old Harrisburg AKA Harrisburg, Texas? I'm doing some research into the old town. JR Harris, Charles H. Milby, James Deady, and the Allen Ranch.
OldHouseLover
No pictures, but family legend that my Grandmother's family came from Germany ca. 1890 to port of Galveston & traveled by ox drawn wagon to Harrisburg. Grandmother was child & said mud was axle deep much of the way from Galveston to Harrisburg. The family traveled on the Washington Co., TX, No info regarding how they traveled from Harrisburg, TX to Washington Co. TX. Best of luck with your project as Harrisburg/East End has long been neglected/forgotten. The movers & shakers of Houston originated from Harrisburg. Sad it's history has been forgotten. travelguy_73
Lookup Bayou City History and Story Sloane's Gallery / Vintage Houston Photography on Facebook. These pages often post old pictures, and have provided some on Harrisburg.
TGM
You need to visit the Houston Metropolitan Research Center at the Julia Ideson Building.http://www.houstonlibrary.org/houston-metropolitan-research-center
NenaE
Daisy Lauretta Smith wrote a paper on the history of Harrisburg quite a while ago. I believe It was published by Chas. H. Milby High School in 1981. Im sure HMRC has a copy.
