editor
Great news. Wasn't it Home Depot that shut down after Ike?

Nick ניק
Nope! Home Depot is still open at Broadway @ 61st next to Target. The new Lowes will only be a few blocks, further east on Broadway.Sadly I think Lowes will put Home Depot out of business and then it too will close. There's not the population (45,000) for it here. The Galv. Home Depot store was the worst performing (and highest shrinkage) store in the region before Ike. Once all the Ike-rebuilding is done...well... plumber2
Former Galveston County Judge Jim Yarbrough told me that the demolition contractor that tore down the old Cotton Concentration Company warehouses was supposed to move one of the old cotton presses onto the court house property and sell the other one for scrap. Apparently these two pieces of iron are too heavy for anyone to want to fool with, for they are still in place. I'll be interested to see how the Lowes contractor deals with either of these land anchors.
