Houston a Great City for Young Adults

Recommended Posts

Houston was recently named one of 10 in the U.S. that offer exceptional opportunities for those starting out in life, under 35, according to Kiplinger.

Here's what they said about Houston"

Like its rival Austin, Houston offers great job prospects and exciting big-city amenities at a price so low, even struggling grads can afford it. Diversity is one of its unsung strengths. More than a million of Houston's inhabitants were born outside of the U.S. H-Town's economy is varied as well: The city has strong energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, transportation and healthcare sectors, and 25 Fortune 500 companies have headquarters here.PROS: A small-town cost of living in the country's fourth-largest city, rents well below the national average, one of the country's best restaurant scenes, vibrant nightlife, an hour from Gulf Coast beaches

CONS: Oppressive heat and humidity, infamous bumper-to-bumper traffic (the average commute will last 26 minutes), heavy air pollution, a crime rate well above the national average

I didn't realize Austin was one of our rivals, and also worth noting that while Austin's "average drive will last only 23 minutes", Houston's "infamous bumber-to-bumper traffic" is a horrible 26 minutes, only 3 more than Austin's.

What exactly does it mean to be a "rival" when cities are involved, anyway? Besides, Houston is a major metropolis. Austin is a really big college town. They are in two different classes.

These crack statisticians who've probably never been to any of these places likely haven't experienced I-35 at rush hour. Puts anything in Houston to shame, except 290. Maybe.
