On Feb. 16, Brennan's of Houston will finally reopen -- a long-awaited date that calls for merrymaking and festivities.After a 17-month renovation, Brennan's is ready to receive old and new friends to its renovated home at 3300 Smith St., destroyed in a two-alarm fire that occurred during Hurricane Ike in September 2008. The party on Tuesday, the day before Lent, marks the return of the Texas creole cooking that made Brennan's one of the city's most beloved restaurants since opening 43 years ago.The new chef Danny Trace.Executive chef Danny Trace, a veteran of the Commander's Palace Family of Restaurants, is ready to serve up dishes that are part of Brennan's heritage as well as new classics. Look for bourbon molasses lacquered quail with foie gras apple stuffing; blue crab stuffed Texas flounder; Veal chop Tchoupitoulas with honey green peppercorn glaze; blue crab and leek bread pudding; dirty duck and foie gras sliders; and Banana's Foster. Oh, yes, and the turtle soup.Beginning Feb. 16, Brennan's will be open for dinner from 5:45 to 10 p.m. daily. On Feb. 22, the restaurant will begin serving lunch on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. As of Feb. 27, brunch will be offered every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Brennan's Sunday Jazz Brunch will commence on Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Get your beads and feathers.
