Members of the UH System Board of Regents, deans of several colleges and University President Jay Gogue were among the guests at a ceremony beginning the transformation of the former Band Annex into a functional workshop for the Gerald D. Hines College of Architectur.Associate architecture professor Geoffrey Brune speaks to a group of UH officials and supporters during a ceremony Thursday marking the beginning of construction of the Burdette Keeland Jr. Design Exploration Center. The Daily Cougar Speakers at the event stood in front of an oversized poster of former architecture professor Burdette Keeland Jr., who died in 2000 and in whose memory the building will be named. The project, which should be completed by next fall, will use the skeleton of the 60-year-old building as the framework for a sleek, modern and practical space in which architecture students can turn their concepts into concrete and clay.
