Want to play in the mud?

Buffalo Bayou Partnership is looking for heat-tolerant, enthusiastic volunteers (ages 16 +) who are available to "play in the mud" at the newly created wetlands at Buffalo Bend Nature Park along the bayou's east sector. There are 7,000 wetland plants that have already been placed, and 2,000 more will be put in as the park's first phase of design plans near completion.

The planting schedule:

9am: Gather at the site, planting instruction and demo.

9:30-11:30: Planting of wetland plants in designated areas.

noon: Round-up tools, supplies.

What you need to bring:

Water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, clothes that breathe and rubber boots that can get muddy (waders if you have them).

Directions:

From I-10 coming from Houston, going towards Beaumont.

-Exit Wayside and make a right

-Follow Wayside down over multiple bridges

-Turn left at Ave. W

-Ave. W. dead ends at Buffalo Bend Nature Park (at Sgt. Macario Garcia Drive)

I'm putting on my rubber boots and heading down there tomorrow.

Sounds like fun BUT that water is literally crappy.

Every station along the Bayou with ecoli measurement are usually above the EPA 394 standard for contact recreation. In other words, Should you really be touching that water?

Simple solution: DON'T DRINK THE WATER!

Just touching the water isn't a big deal unless you have open wounds and hepatitus. Just don't drink it...
