editor
#1 is Ted Turner at two million acres. He owns more land than Rhode Island and Delaware combined.http://www.landreport.com/americas-100-largest-landowners/#
kylejack
Ted Turner was attempting to buy contiguous land from Mexico to Canada so he could ride his horse all across the country. I think he's either completed it or come close. There was a 60 Minutes piece on him that talked about it.
editor
I bet he could pick up a lot of land in Mexico cheap. Maybe double his holdings at half the price. He could have his own private cattle drive. Or I guess bison drive in his case.

It wasn't but a couple of years ago that quite a few wealthy Mexicans started buying second homes in the United States out of concern that a leftist candidate for President would bring with him land redistribution. They have to use a Mexican proxy, because only Mexicans are allowed to buy land. Something like that.
