Gambling Coming Back To El Paso

"On Tuesday, City Council voted unanimously to support a second birth for Speaking Rock, making it a top priority for Texas legislature now in session. El Paso's state representatives and senators all support reestablishing gambling."

The above statement is from the El Paso Times and KVIA television news. This casino was very popular until 10 years ago when the State of Texas declared that gambling was illegal in Texas, even though the lottery was being allowed.

Hopefully this will allow other cities in Texas to pass laws regarding casinos. This particular casino was part of the Tiqua tribe.

There has also been some discussion about opening up gambling in Galveston as a way to revitalize the island now.

.... and you just know that Tilman is all antsy in his pantsies over that! But if he couldn't make the financing work to buy out Landry's, I'd imagine he'd have a hard time with a new casino in Galveston. Who knows-- gambling is a big part of Galveston's history; a Golden Nugget or a Harrah's might work. However, I can't imagine anything really helping Galveston long-term unless they spend the millions it will take to rebuild the beaches.

Poor El Paso, casino or no, that town's just an obstacle on the way the Gila Natl Forest in New Mexico.

El Paso City Council votes are not binding on the state legislature, and the legislature has shot down many many gambling proposals. There is a casino in Eagle Pass, but I believe that's the only one.
