SecondTour
Interesting piece in the Times about the business behind local news. I almost never watch local news, so I'm not familiar with the Houston woman mentioned.http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/01/business...ml?ref=business
ChannelTwoNews
The way they bumped off Bob Lobel, Joyce Kulhawik (and to a lesser extent due to a shorter time) Scott Wahle at 'BZ still seems unseemly, but not surprising given the state of everything. Anyway, wasn't actually aware Ms. Campbell was gone. I guess she's one of those solid reporters that just blended into the background over the years... editor
I worked with Carolyn Campbell for a couple of years at KHOU. She was OK. Not great. Nothing really special. Didn't do any memorable reports. Didn't do anything particularly bad, either. The Times could have picked better examples from KHOU for that story -- Steve Smith and Dr. Neil Frank leap to mind. Probably could have gotten even better examples from KTRK.
Subdude
I'm always a bit surprised at the interest in newsreaders. It never struck me as something requiring any particular degree of skill. One wouldn't expect a lot of people still to be getting their news by having it recited to them that way.
