Vertigo58
Was watching a great old film by George Stevens and was intrigued by the Hanukkah celebration scene. It seemed very family like and solemn. I often wondered what this event is like. Does anyone know of any family, friends or coworkers that follow the traditional practice during this time of the year? I always wanted to experience in person but have only seem in films, TV, etc. Lighting candles each night. Singing special songs, such as Ma'oz Tzur. Reciting Hallel prayer. Eating festive meals and foods fried in oil, such as latkes and sufganiyot. Playing the dreidel game, and giving Hanukkah gelt. Has anyone actually seen this done? Do you need to have a Rabbi present or is that just an extra? I have noticed Menorahs in some windows in the last few years.
