When 3603 Bayshore was built, asbestos shingles were in vogue. Now that Ike has initiated restoration, I do not want to "staple up the Hardie siding" and slap coat coat of Sears Best white on it. Does anyone have experience with a shingle replacement product that has the same look?

To replace broken framing this siding will need to be removed. The original was a light sage green (non-painted) and has been a consistent color with slight fading since 1951.

You will have to conduct some on-line research (try: http://www.arcat.com/ ). One potential solution would be to utilize Hardiplank fascia board applied to resemble the original asbestos installation. Note: You may have to have the existing siding removed by a certified asbestos removal sub-contractor. Good luck!

We used the Purity shingle earlier this year to replace broken asbestos shingles on the side of our house. It is indistinguishable from the original and comes in the most popular styles. We got ours (in stock) from Olshan's.
