WillowBend56
Where was the last open Stuckeys in Texas? When did it close? [i occasionally see the old buildings recycled for other businesses. They had a distinctive building style.]Underwood's cafeteria was another restaurant you used to see around Texas. The only one left is in Brownwood.Terry's was another roadside favorite but more localized, I believe. I've seen a few "dead" locations around. 20thStDad
I could be totally wrong, but I thought there was still a Stuckey's on I-10 between Anahuac and Winnie (somewhere on the 3-lane portion). I know there's one that is shut down/abandoned and one that is still open, but the shut down one might be the Stuckey's. I know there is still a billboard advertising biscuits and gravy. I'm pretty sure it is for Stuckey's. I'll check next week when we drive to LA.

RWReagen
Underwoods Brownwood: I highly recommend a visit to this famous place. It's a cafeteria style restaraunt that serves bbq and all the side dishes. The claim to fame is the bbq beef. Everything else is good but not exceptional. The beef however is oven cooked not pit smoked but it comes out SO incredibly tender that your brain waves from looking at it alone are enough to make it fall apart on your plate. Its also cut flat like a steak and not on the side like bacon like most other restaraunts. Topped off with my personal favorite greasy sauce. The lines are out the door most days. Plus they come around and pass out fresh hot grandma style rolls. I'm going there this weekend!
plumber2
The Stuckey's building in LaMarque is still there. It is occupied by some kind of real estate company now.
