Why Aren't Old Houston Newspapers Available Online

Just found 10 years (1893-1903) of the Houston Daily Post online at the Library of Congress site.

I ran across this today, also the Jewish Herald is listed. Interesting ads, Kiams, Foley's, restaurants, etc.

They (the libraries) are making a little progress, with availability & digitizing. Yaaah.

As points of comparison, the Chicago Tribune has its archives back to 1849 available online and searchable for free. I use it all the time.

The Chicago Sun-Times has 1986 to the present.

The Chicago Defender only has 1910 to 1975 so far. But the Defender is a far smaller paper than the Chronicle, with staff stretched much thinner. If the Defender can be online, the Chronicle can, too.
