Disastro
Does anyone know anything about the partially submerged concrete ship that can be seen from the Bollivar ferry? If this has already been discussed, forgive the re-thread...and just point me to the thread where it's been discussed....Thanks,Dis
TheNiche
My understanding is that it was an old liberty ship that was sunk to create a reef. I could be wrong, though.
Ross
Here's a link http://www.concreteships.org/ships/ww1/selma/ it was built in WWI, and wasn't a Liberty Ship.
editor
That's cool. I always wondered what that was. I didn't realize it was that significant. You can see a lot of strange things from that ferry. I wish there was a map of the bay showing the sites as you pass. That web site says there's an historical marker. Does anyone know where it is? It can't be actually on the ship, can it?
editor
Here's an arial photo from Google Mapshttp://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=29....p;z=19&om=
Ross
I think the historical marker is in Seawolf Park. It's worth a visit to see the marker, and tour th esubmarine and destroyer escort. They can all use your admission fee to keep things going.

Thanks for posting Ross! And the google aerial shot was very cool too! I can't believe that thing is still there after all these years. The water must be REAL shallow there... plumber2
It's great fishing around it. Except for that one day when my buddy and I were there, just drifting past it, letting the currents take us near the Seawolf Park pier. We kept hitting sheepshead, so my buddy got real pissed off and grabbed a club he kept in the boat and beat the crap out of the fish so they would quit hitting our lines. The guys on the pier were mortfied. They called out to us "Yu ain't gunnu keep dat?"
