Scotch
Texas Ave. in Bryan used to be the home to eight new car dealerships, a Holiday Inn(later a private dorm), a nice sized Kroger, H.E.B. Pantry, Albertson's and a surprisingly busy Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream plant. All of these businesses have moved or closed. The move of the car dealerships to the East Bypass left Bryan's Texas Ave. a shadow of its former self. When HEB closed the Pantry store to upgrade at the Tejas Center further south, I hoped Kroger and Albertson's might have some breathing room, but Kroger ended up closing that location and opened a new store on the East Bypass, and Albertson's in the former Townshire Shoping Center also closed. Just a year or or two ago, things weren't looking so good for Texas Ave. However, there have been recent signs of life and hopeful progress. The slow developing North Park Plaza, hopeful future home of Hooter's, will soon be home to three restaurants in the main part of the center. The former Kroger received a nice facade facelift and is home to Citi Trends clothing and 99 Cents Only, which is nicer than most typical "dollar" stores. HEB Pantry has undergone the most interesting redo, it is now a charter school, Harmony Science Academy.O'Reilly Auto Parts is building a new building at the corner of Wayside Dr.And in the better late than never department, Monday, April 17th, 2006 @ 9:41am Post #92 On a positive note, I have word that Bryan will soon have two more Whataburgers; One near the Tejas Center, and one near the new Kroger Signature. The Tejas Center Whataburger, facing Texas Ave., is under construction. So, there is some good news for this once decaying corridor... IronTiger
But Kroger is now a somewhat ugly office area, Schulman 6 is a college building, and Winn-Dixie is still vacant.
Scotch
Kroger is now Citi Trends and a $.99 Store, Winn-Dixie over on 29th has been Chamber of Commerce/Council of Government type offices for many years now, perhaps there needs to be better signage so people know that it is not a vacant building, as you are not the first on this forum to think that. Scotch
Pictures of North Park Plaza, possibly the future home of Hooter's. Looks like their newest tenant will be Lenny's Sub Shop. The center is home to three restaurants; Pyro Mongolian Fusion Grill, La Riviera Restaurant & Bakery and Teriyaki Park Sushi.
Scotch
Current construction in the "back" of the Tejas Center, behind HEB. There is work on a new entry facade for part of the old Walmart, and a new five space retail strip that faces Texas Ave.
