My first trip to Doha was in 2002, and there was very little construction in West Bay. The largest building then was City Centre Mall, which looked like a giant box rising out of the plain. Fast forward to my last trip a few weeks ago, and there's a bunch of construction. Traffic is bad, safety is laughable. The buildings are nice once they are completed, but getting there is a challenge. Doha is the city that had a tower under construction burn. Twice. The second time, the fire spread to the neighboring building.The buidings seem well built. Lots of rebar and concrete. The Gate project was pouring foundation sections up to 20 feet thick.
