Super Bowl

Recommended Posts

The reality that I noticed about New Orleans, while I was going to school there (2 years at Xavier), was that the city basically supports the whole state. Louisiana is a relatively "poor" state. That's no diss on Louisianans. But as long as the state continues to rely on N.O. for tax revenue, the city will never have the money it needs to adequately reinvest in its infrastructure. Just my opinion though. I'm sure some here have a more enlightened opinion.

Good thing it is just your opinion. The state make over 65% of its revenue outside of the city of New Orleans. You never know that sugar cane and foresting can be so profitable. Also, the oil industry and a nice chunk of the shipbuilding industry is not located in New Orleans. New Orleans definitley wins hands down with tourism revenues either from tourist, conventioneers, or large events such as the sugarbowl.

The Casinos in the Shreveport/Bossier region has developed that region into and economic powerhouse also. Many of the urban renewal we want to see in downtown and midtown here are occuring there. Lots of condos and apartments are being developed within old warehouses and a new convention center is underway. Shreveport's downtown has developed a more entertainment district that has last call at 4am. Also, cultural events are on the upswing.

Lake Charles is actually seeing a revitalization. They have a long way to go though.

The state just has the get the ball rolling from steady slow growth in population and economy and raise it up a bit.

To answer Trophy's question, I am indeed in the military, stationed in South Korea. I also DJ here, and spread Houston cheer throughout all the land :-). I've also started up a production crew, Xcessive, that will soon be based in Houston and will help put Houston on the map in the international music scene.

Now, to respond to me main man kjb434. New Orleans. Haven't been there yet. Heard it was a fun town. Um, take that back. Fun street. Bourbon. However the point kjb434 made, being that everything is in close proximity to each other, is like, the same feedback I've heard from just about everyone else that's been there. (Due to it's party reputation, it makes me really wanna go there to check it out.)

The way Houston is built, as we all know, is like multiple hot cities in one. River Oaks- Galleria and Richmond Strip. Downtown-Main Street. Reliant Park - Astroworld. Midtown- that kick ass Randalls. Montrose-St. Thomas. All the Universities. ALL the shopping facilities. I truly believe that H-town can use this as an advantage and selling point. I also believe that the world doesn't know this until they get here. But they already get that perception about New York and LA. Houston-Worlds of Fun. Once we get that 4am Shreveport last call thing going in town, we'll be set.

MUCH love to the Trophy one! Thanx to you and the whole city for your support. I finish my time this July, where I may start on the international traveling circuit. To answer the honorable 27, I spin house, trance, progressive, breakbeat, and hip-hop. I use both digital and vinyl (I love vinyl more, but in Korea, the clubs all have digital) They LOVE Houston hip-hop, and I spin at a hip-hop club for now, however I plan on releasing an electronic album sometime this summer, and I plan on making my electronic side more international in the coming months. And I REALLY wanna help Houston's club scene create an international presence in the near future. I hope I can help raise the standards of downtown Houston's mixing department as well, if it needs improving :-).

Also, 27 just lost 5 bucks :-) I'm a 25B (network administrator, basically) Ever seen Office Space? Self explanatory :-)

Yo, I LOVE HOUSTON!!! It's the city with the greatest potential in the world! Stereotype suggesting that Houston's a desert is a ticket to Ignorance Island. Ever seen the amount of landscaping done in H-Town? GREAT JOB!! And I LOVE Houston at night!! I'm not a traffic fan in the daytime, but the greatest feeling in the world for me is walking at night in Houston. Keep solving the mosquito problem, and that will give travelers one less thing to complain about.

I TRULY don't think we have to change much about Houston locally, because I believe with the great citizens we have, and the steady progress we're making, we've made a very successful, very posh, and very high-standard society. If it weren't for the haze over the skyline, and the visible dirty air at times, I'd say we're in paradise! You're beautiful!

Our biggest opponent to another Super Bowl is stereotypes from the rest of America. There's only one reason why America swarms New Orleans. Mardi Gras. Let's face it. When else do the masses wanna go to Louisana? Miami-da party atmosphere. Vegas- the Strip.

I want four things from Houston. We get this, and we're the greatest city in the world:

1) Cleaner air and a usable Buffalo Bayou as a riverwalk. Buffalo Bayou is currently being worked on, but I wanna see it done WAY before 2025, and I'd like to see more private investors step up to the plate to get this done faster. And I wanna see more amenities to industrial sites and factories in ALL SE Texas that follow strict ordinances for amount of pollution they can put in our air.

2) A party and club scene STRONGER than that of Miami. Believe it or not, with the way the city is built, the Houstonian's urge to party, and the amount of clubs already in place, this CAN happen. One way to do this? How about a rivalry between the club scenes of Downtown and the Richmond Strip that we spread into an international debate between celebs and college kids alike? T-town vs. Mercury Room. Roxy vs. Mantra. Surf Shack vs. Engine Room. Locally, we'd support who we want, but the world would wanna come in to see for themselves. Of course, that'd mean the club hours would have to run much later in order for out-of-towners to find out, right?

3) More people utilizing the pedestrian areas of Houston. I believe thanx to the surge of development here in H-town, we will soon have the walking-only areas set up to add to Houston's vibrancy. Once they're complete (Memorial City, Main Street, etc.) and wth the ones already there (Galleria, every cool mall here), we gotta get out of our cars, and enjoy more.

4) more noteriety with the array of diversity and creativity in Houston. We already know this as Houstonian, but how does someone from Orlando know this?

We do these things, and Houston will NEVER have a problem landing another Super Bowl from another city. Hell, I think we already beat Miami, New Orleans, and San Diego as the best host city, due to our enthusiasm for the game, which wasn't as big in any other city.

You answered these in the same order I would have. I have to say though, My fav's are South Coast Breakbeat (Anything being played in Lafayette LA, Panama City Florida, or New Orleans, LA), Euro House & Trance (mostly big name stuff with vocals), and a little Hip-Hop (mostly stuff from the south - but I'm super picky. e.g.: Lil' Jon yelling "yeah - oooookay.. what? yeah oookay" every song isn't talent - Outkast is.). I started on vinyl and went digital.

TPS reports? :P

I feel like the grim reaper - but I just don't see Houston gaining a reputation for being a party town. How can you ever replace South Beach, or the Strip??

I think whats happened with the Superbowl is that its gotten away from the fans celebrating for a week before the big game. I honestly didn't see that many Patriot's or Panther fans last year at any of the events. All I saw were Houstonians (which I bet made up for at least 1/2 all the crowds minus the actual superbowl attendees) and then I saw a bunch of corporate sponsors.

The Superbowl has went from a fan based event to a corporate based function. The only reason we did so well is not because we accomodated the fans, but we accomodated the big spenders (corporate sponsors & theire subsidiaries). But hey, thats fine by me if it gets another one to come to town.

Respect to the Firestarter 27 for his TPS reports! I, I, I set building on fire!

I'm a progressive and harder trance guy myself. I LOVE the European trance, yo! Lil Jon's cool with me. I don't think he's going anywhere for a while. Outkast is cool. Come to think of it, Atlanta's all over the hip-hop map this year. I hope Houston sees a surge in entertainment as strong as they have. We're getting there.

For the record, Houston has NO CHANCE of gaining a reputation as a party destination if ciy council doesn't help out. The current guidelines I think are much stricter here than in most other major cities. The fact is, we Houstonians love to party, and the Super Bowl was a prime example.

As quoted from the noble philosopher 27, "I honestly didn't see that many Patriot's or Panther fans last year at any of the events. All I saw were Houstonians (which I bet made up for at least 1/2 all the crowds minus the actual superbowl attendees) and then I saw a bunch of corporate sponsors." Do you guys remember how PACKED Main Street, the Galleria, GRB Convention center were, or how busy our airports, restaurants, traffic, and clubs were? That's a LOT of Houstonians, and a LOT of corporate sponsors, yo.

If we build it (which we have), and we support it (which city council needs to do), they will come...
