Wide Eye
My fireplace is made of bricks. The color of the 30-yr bricks doesn't look good anymore. Other than completely changing the bricks to slates, what are some of the other ways to update it while not to spend a whole lot of money? Painting? What type of paint? I'm not sure I like the idea of simply painting the fireplace to white. Any ideas?

Dan the Man
Rather than painting the brick, I'd recommend putting cultured stone over the brick. This can drastically change the look of the fireplace, while still maintaining a more realistic masonry appearance than painted brick. Try Googling "Owens Corning Cultured Stone" or "Eldorado Stone". They have a wide variety of styles and colors. Installation instructions and technical information should also be on their sites.
