It seems the finish has failed and they are extremely tarnished. We would like to restore them without tedious polishing. So far we've tried silver polish and Brasso with less than stellar results and A LOT of elbow grease. Anyone have advice?? OH....and what can you seal it with after you have achieved your results?? They're probably copper plate or copper paint.Call a company that does chrome plating. IIRC, copper plating is an intermediate step in the chrome plating process, and they might be able to re-plate them, and then clearcoat them for you. I'm going to check that out. I know for sure they're not painted and don't think they're plated b/c my husband took some sand paper to them It didn't appear to be plated but I could be wrong. I really appreciate your help!!If they were solid copper, then sandpaper, unless it was 4000 grit, would have made look like a new penny in no time flat. If they were plated or painted on the other hand, sandpaper would have quickly cut through the paint/plating and they would end up looking like crap.
