    Does anyone on here know the history of Orlando Supermarket located on 6806 W Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77091? All I've found is that Marvin Zhindler did a report on it way back in the days because of the R and the D being blown off by a storm and not being replaced the store has since changed owners and has been known as O-Lan-O ever since. It would be even cooler if some one had old photos of it. I do remember as a kid back in the 80's Orlando ads in the news paper. but it's been a long time.

    There is a discussion on my FB page on weather or not Dean Corll ever actually bury any of his victims in the woods along White Oak Bayou in what is now a park. I say it's just a myth and have actually looked online and there is no mention of him even actually ever dumping bodies in that area but I have a small group who claim differently. Help me prove them wrong.

    I have found and article(http://blog.chron.com/bayoucityhistory/2011/01/one-mans-look-at-luna-park/) and it says that the picture below is the actual entrance to Luna Park. Looks nothing like the entrances to Colonial Park.

    You may be right, kind of like people now calling First Ward and other parts of Houston the Heights.

    But one thing strikes me, if Luna Park was once called "Colonial Park" then it would show up in the directories for that period wouldn't it? I recall it being also named Venice but not Colonial. So may questions.

    I grew up in the nearby 1st Ward but moved to the Heights in the late 80's around 88 or 89 and there was gang activity. The most know gags were: * Puro Heights * 8 - Ball Posse * Bad Company Posse (BCP) * 6 1/2 Street Gang And some other's I can't remember off of the top of my head. Also up until the early 90's there a rash of auto thefts in the Heights area. It's good to see that longer isn't the case and that the neighborhood is better off now.

    Oh man Ross that picture from 1925 look almost identical, good find. Also I believe you are correct as I remember hearing stories of Luna Park having different names.

    Does anyone know where the park in the picture below was? it says Colonial Park Houston Texas. I know there is a Colonial Park in West U (Bellaire) but I found out that area was outside of the Houston City limits until some time around the 1940's, this picture looks like way before that time frame so It can't be that park or am I missing something. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t118/Vago_Pachuquero/1012398_1397846847134865_884869356_n_zps168be647.jpg

    It wouldn't surprise me if it the head stones were removed and something built on top because it was common in those days,especially if it was a negro cemetery. I hate to say it like that but that's just the way it was back in those days.

    I remember the Hardy street whistle from back in the 80's. We use to live near the railroad tracks on Murray near quit man at the end of the street there use to be some kind of factory.

    Hi gun, Here is a copy of the bus route for the 44 Acres Homes(http://www.ridemetro.org/SchedulesMaps/Pdfs/044-acres.pdf). I looks like it only comes near the Independence Heights area when it comes down Crosstimbers but it never comes directly through the neighborhood like the 66 Yale does. Do you happen to have a copy of the old Street Cart route by any chance so we could compare? I think you are really on to something here. Thanks.

    Hi guys thanks for your answers but this still doesn't explain why the two names. I've looked at maps going back to the 20's and Studewood has always ended where it runs into 23rd and Gibss I think it is the name of the other street in the Sunset Heights area. I know from History that people of that neighborhood named it Independence Heights to distinguish them selves apart from the back then racist neighborhood of the Heights.

    I'm still wondering as to how Studewood would relate to Independence Heights? I currently stay near Acres Homes and I see the bus route that's 44. Wow the 40-60's. Someone must know as to why the neighborhood is nick named Studewood or Studewood Texas.
