  1. I saw that yesterday, too. It is cool.

One question: Do they change out the seat cushions or whole seats themselves for Aeros games? They look to be a different color when the ice is out.

Yeah I noticed the color change, too. We have season tickets for the Aeros, but I've never been to a Rockets game in TC. Does it just appear that the color changes because they actually go row by row & lift up/put down all seat cushions before a Rockets game? I have no idea, but I'm sure they do a lot more to get the place 'nice' for the Rockets games than they do for the Aeros. They don't seem to like us hockey fans too much (most likely because there are so few of us) so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they completely changed cushions. That does seem like a lot of work, though.

  2. Did Jason mention to buy the book?

We are not going to be able to make the tour :( The 25th is just a bad day for us. We do plan on going to the Modern Market, though - will we be able to buy the book there? Or just pick it up later from Houston Mod?

  3. Thanks, Flipper, for the pictures. It was obviously a great house & it's sad that it was neglected so.

Also, sevfiv, that's so funny about the sign. Even though I've seen them a million times, and obviously remembered JTB - I never noticed their little graphics. "The wrecking ball against the city, the bulldozer against the world" is going to be part of my vocabulary now.

  4. Not to completely derail, but is JTB the 'only' demo company in town? They just knocked one down across the street from me a couple of days ago and I was thinking about how every house I see go here (in Bellaire) always has the JTB sign in the yard.

  5. Does anyone remember when the KKK marched down Westheimer. There were 100 klan's men and 400 cops. I think that was in 83/84. Or that roller skating group, The Urban Animals? How about Cabaret Voltaire--I still have a cassette from a Bark Hard show there.

i saw several shows at cabaret voltaire, but it did close pretty soon after i started going there with any regularity. and bachanon - i still listen to the band all the time, too. how long were the urban animals around? i remember seeing them out & about a lot, and then they were just gone - or at least i never saw them anymore. didn't they used to joust & such?

  6. My mom lived next door to this house for 15 years. She built at 7627 in the early 90s after I went to college.

This home was probably only owned by one family. The husband died about 7 years ago or so. I hope this isn't an estate sale.

Well, there's an open house on Thursday (31st) from noon - 2pm. Isn't that an odd day for an open house?

The detail says "Great property to update or build. Located in Hunters Creek neighborhood of River Bend on cul-de-sac. DESSERT SERVED!" <_<

  7. Zappo's was much better in my opinion. I think Schlotsky's had already been open a couple of years before Zappo's closed. When they remodeled the shopping center they raised the rent, which is probably why Zappo's closed.

Yeah, I liked Zappo's better, too. You remember how you could buy half sandwiches? I used to go pretty regularly during my high school years and get a whole cheese melt. One day I went & ordered just a half and the guy working asked me if I just wasn't that hungry that day or what... I told him that I was just too broke that day! When I got home & opened the bag, he'd given me a full sandwich.

  8. There was also another restaurant called The Coquery.

Is this the one that you could take a shortcut through from Galleria I to get to Galleria II? It dumped you right over by the theaters ... I could never remember the name of that place.

  9. This dates me, but I saw the first Star Wars in first release at one of the Galleria theatres.

I'd almost be embarrassed to tell you how many times I saw that movie in that theater. Remember those circular bench things with the planters in the center? My friend & I buried an R2-D2 toy in there while waiting in line and then when it was time to move along, we couldn't find him.

I know I have pictures taken in the mall, but I think finding them will prove difficult. I'll start the search!

  10. i went with two friends. after hearing about the film a couple of times on this board, i'm really glad i finally got to see it. long, yes, but very interesting.

there was an older (50's - 60's, i'd guess) couple sitting on my right side - the female was black & the male was white. when the older white lady in the film was telling the story about how they wanted to buy in river oaks but didn't ever have their calls returned, and she said that they heard from others that it was because they were jewish - the lady next to me said "hmph .. duh!"

the father that broke down crying when telling the story about his daughter wanting to bring her friend home happened right before the little 'break' in the film, correct? when the projectionist had to spool the next reel, or fix it, or whatever - there was a minute or so of nothing before it started back up. that probably intensified the effect of his story. i just saw it as some sort of catharsis, too. feelings that were probably pent up for a very long time.

the couple that ruled the roost from the living room of the house they'd designed ... from what i could see of it in the film, that's a gorgeous house!

niche & sev - did you guys sit in maybe the 2nd row down? we were upper left, too, and i remember a male & female coming in just before everything started. we were in the very back row and i think you guys may have sat just in front & to the right of us.

  11. That big hill at 610/59 was definitely a waterslide at one point. My brother's girlfriend (at the time) worked there, so I'd rike my bike over & she'd let me ride for free. I was trying really hard to remember when that was, but I know that I was either nearly out of elementary or just starting junior high - so that would put it around '80-'82 ?

  12. My husband & I went and looked at this house today. We both really liked it. The only other con that was obvious to us (that Jason hadn't already mentioned) was that it definitely needs a new roof. We thought it looked like it was about that time, and the seller's disclosure thing does say it was new in May '79. So, yeah. Don't have enough knowledge to know about the foundation, etc. It all looks good, but I'm certainly no expert.

I agree with the courtyard in front, the entryway tile, & that living room all being huge pluses. I LOVE that formica in the kitchen. We also loved the pocket doors everywhere. It's got much more storage that we currently have, and all but one of the bedrooms are larger than our largest here, so how could we not love that?

Of course we also did the obligatory 'drive by & look' at the 3 Jenkins' - including your house, Jason, and from what we could see from the street - it's just lovely!
