  1. Agreed. If they can make it relatively safe to walk around Manhattan, they should be able to accomplish the same thing in Midtown Houston.
  2. The biggest fear is when walking back to your car late at night or driving home. Lighting would definitely help. With the economy the homeless population has grown quite a bit in SE Midtown.
  3. Bad press but maybe it helps stimulate some additional resources. Anyways for your viewing: http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8186219
  4. http://houstonist.com/2006/02/06/fourth_ward_str.php Right, so an extension towards the Junction/Hefley's direction.
  5. Couple of the ones for sale in my complex now have "Sale Pending" signs as of today. Good to see.
  6. The number for sale seems to continue to rise. Do you think it's more of the state of the market in the sense townhomes are usually somewhat transitional, and it's tough to get out of them in a bad market? Or are people giving up on the neighborhood in the sense it doesn't seem to be progressing? I guess I'm just venting cause it's discouraging. On that note we could use a nice, friendly Irish pub on the southeast side.
  7. I think it is an extension of wonder bar or an associated club. Also, I saw that Pub was doing interior renovations, but that the lot by howl at the moon has some action, so not sure what the intention is now for that lot. I would have to ask some folks that work there.
  8. Yeah, probably head to next safety meeting. They'll ask why I didn't call the cops, but when you're driving and trying to lose someone (who may coincidentally being going the same way), hard to call at the same time. Maybe putting the precint 7 as AA-precint 7 on hands free, so that it shows up right away, is a good strategy.
  9. Guerilla, thanks for the advice. Oddly enough I was cruising through this area yesterday morning around 10am and there was a car in the middle of the street soliciting whatever, so I drove past (rather than waiting behind them). Not sure if they were paranoid, but then they followed me. At first I thought it was a coincidence, but then after a few non-blinker turns, they were still on me. I finally lost them by doing some circles. Couldn't get the license plate. Think I'll just take Elgin instead.
  10. Doesn't look like the bus stop is leaving soon. Originally metro was going to move it to the other side of downtown. http://swamplot.com/whats-left-of-the-burnett-transit-center/2011-02-22/
  11. Midtown had good crowds at the outside venues on Sunday. Went to Farrago's. Very vibrant. On the way home Piola was crowded as well. I think the infrastructure planned at the boy scout building will do well.
  12. Sorry, I thought the subject had the cross-streets, but the area around Tuam/Anita crossing Fannin/Main. Will try to take a pic is possible.
  13. Seems like there are suspect characters always waiting to go up to cars and others doing recon. Anyone else notice this? I can tell they already know my vehicle (thus know i'm not a cop). Assuming this has been brought up before at a public safety meeting. Do you think this area will seem safer when there is more development? There are already two nice bars: 13 and Art bar.
  14. My girlfriend and I stopped by the new bar in Tipsy's place this past Saturday night. It's called Wonderbar, and it is owned by the same guy who owns Sawyer Park. It was jam packed.
  15. Yes, and please see brian123's comments below regarding a description. Has anyone tried out the updated Leon's Lounge, and if so, how was it?
  16. http://www.facebook.com/pages/BarMunich/129910213720624 Maybe this is the place to which you refer? Hmm, Midtown has so many sports bars already, and I saw Pub has begun work on their new place as well.
  17. I saw a new sign for a Magnicat House events center on the other side of the fire station from the White House. Could this be casting doubt on the success of a restaurant in this area? Hope not. I realize charities are good, but was hoping for something more supplemental to the town home community at that lot. Anyone have an update on the White House?
