  1. None of the teachers who teach at my school failed for the subjects they teach AND kept the failing grades. I have had a few that took tests for subjects they do not teach, failed, and never took the test again.

Do you want me to find copies of the released tests on the internet?

By the way, some of my teachers did not know that their scores were released until I told them.

  2. I'll reveal some other school name ideas.

Remember how I stated that I feel that all of the city limits of Houston should be in one school district? Well, here are some ideas for new schools that would come with the district:

    * Jocelyne M. Couture-Nowak Elementary School - This would be an elementary school located in Kingwood or the Kingwood area. What would be special about it? I would add a French bilingual magnet program (option for people zoned for school, mandatory for magnet transfers) aimed at residents of Kingwood, Summerwood, Aldine, and North Forest. This school would be named after the Virginia Tech French professor who died in Norris 211.

    * Sin-Itiro Tomonaga Elementary School - Tomanaga was a renowned Japanese physicist who developed quantum electrodynamics and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Tomonaga died in 1979. I would locate his school along the shore of Lake Houston to serve residential developments there.

    * Kathryn J. Whitmire Elementary School - Whitmire was a mayor of Houston. She is still alive today. I would have the school named after her also located along the shore of Lake Houston.

EDIT: Hey, I'm trying to post my ideas about HS 7 at http://beta.digiposts.com/digiposts/DigiPosts?site=204 and it is stating that the forums are read only even after I register? Jeez!

  3. i think you're proving moonman's point, with less children in midtown, there is less likelyhood of a new school being built in midtown.

Yep, or for that matter, a neighborhood school.

International HS just opened, but it is a magnet within HCCS Central.

  4. No, I'm sure that he meant the school is in Midtown because today it is in the same location as it was in the past, that is in Midtown where it is today. None of the area was called Midtown back then anyway. I think it was mostly ghetto and is still an alternative for those who can't afford to purchase downtown.

    J. W. Jones is still open - I have not heard of any formal plans to close the school - I assume its days are numbered anyway.

San Jacinto High School, HSPVA, and St. Agnes used to be in the area now known as Midtown.

International Studies High School, a magnet school, is in Midtown.

  5. but not on a tourist visa, I suppose? I mean I know that there are non-resident visitors who put their kids in American schools, that is anybody who is not a Green card holder, for instance in grad school or working for a company. I'd be curious though whether HISD or other school districts in fact verify the immigration status of the children enrolled, I wouldn't think so...

The US Supreme Court stated that a school district may not deny educational services to illegal immigrants.

  6. In Austin, there are no cumbersome gates going up and down to worry about. You simply drive through if you have a toll tag.

You know, we have that too - It's called "EZTAG" - In fact some routes in Houston, such as the Westpark Tollway, are EZTAG only.

The Harris County Toll Road Authority has the EZTAG signup here: https://www.hctra.org/eztagstore/home/updat...?url=/signup.do

    EDIT: I found this:

"3. Why is the Sam Houston Tollway so antiquated? HCTRA should install drive-thru lanes without gates for those with EZ PASS at the exit/on-ramp tollbooths (like the ones on the Dallas North Tollway). Instead, we have to wait for the $&*#@^ gate to open."

I would have to go along the tollway to see instances of pass-through areas along the exits.

  7. Well Korhrville has already been taken by Korhville Elementary which is about 4-6 minutes away from were the new school will be located.

Sometimes the high school can take the same name an elementary school. I forget, though, about any particular cases. I would have to do some research on this.

    EDIT:

*Garland ISD in Garland, TX has two Rowlett schools with the same names: Rowlett Elementary School and Rowlett High School

*Los Angeles USD in Los Angeles, CA has a Los Angeles Elementary School and a Los Angeles High School

*Richardson ISD in Richardson, TX has two Dallas schools with same names: Lake Highlands Elementary School and Lake Highlands High School

  8. Will it be a testube baby, or will the brother get to have a little fun ? ;)

I guess it depends if the two parties are interested in conceiving THAT way.

I have not performed a lot of research with sister/brother makes baby in homosexual relationship scenarios, but I bet that may happen in some of them.

  9. Well, you have to either do that or adopt if you want to make a kids. Two guys can't magically make a baby on their own, and likewise same with the ladies.

As I said earlier, one male partner may have his sister act as a surrogate - And with females, the same with one partner's brother.

  10. I read Of Mice and Men in middle school - I believe it was the 6th grade.

The book is perfectly okay for middle and high school audiences.

I remembered watching two film versions - One version starred a girl who looked like my 6th and 8th grade science teacher.

  11. Midtown said " I just wanted to understand how two gay men (or two gay women) can have children.

Who does who in the what now?

Are all of musicman's gay friends with kids ex-breeders? "

some of the ones I know ARE "ex-breeders" according to how the word is used in the gay community. But i also know some that had children as gay people. that is why when i hear gays use the word breeders as a derogatory comment, i think they are juvenile because gays have children too.

They can use a surrogate woman - I.E. the sister of one of the partners and the other partner.

  12. I recall they started having rock bands come in and play in the auditorium. This had to be around 1975. This group that played was actually quite good. To this day I dont know what compelled them to allow such a feat to take place! Maybe they were related to the faculty or something. I just know hen the bell rang we all ran to get a good seat!

Speaking of the auditorium, I remember they would show real movies ever so often. The one that stands out for me was "To Kill a Mockingbird" for English class. Our teacher must have been wise to have us see such a great film. Nowadays they would probably lose their jobs for showing such an innocent film.

Vertigo, I saw the film twice at my high school (which is in the same school district). I do not believe that I saw it in my middle school, though.

  13. It may go the way of the Randall's.

There were (2) Randall's at one time on Westheimer and Wilcrest and Westheimer and Dairy Ashford.

The one on Dairy Ashford has since closed and is reopening as a 24 Hour Fitness Sport.

Having competition and (2) locations close to each other could saturate the market.

    Let's compare their scenarios:

Target Westchase (10801 Westheimer Rd) to Westheimer@Eldridge SuperTarget = 3.4 miles

Katy West SuperTarget (23710 Westheimer Pkwy) to Westheimer@Eldridge SuperTarget = 8.9 miles

Randalls 11041 Westheimer Rd to former Randalls 12555 Westheimer Rd = 2.5 miles

  14. Memorial Thicket is zoned in two different districts bc of the bayou. Everything south of the bayou is Houston ISD and before the Army core re-engineered the bayou it would make part of Memorial Thicket south of the bayou. Hence everything else. I wonder where the kids went to school before Westside, Barbara Bush, and the other opened up in the mid-90s (seeing how MT started in the late 70s)

yea Im with you on giving Wolfe back to SBISD. I mean its like 5 min to Stratford but we now have to go 25 min in the other direction to Taylor. Still a good school but c'mon! KISD will never let go of the property taxes though.

Before Westside opened, the area was zoned to Lee High School.

Before West Briar opened, the area was zoned to Revere Middle School, which opened in the 1980s.

I believe the area was zoned to Ashford Elementary School and/or Shadowbriar Elementary School before Bush opened - as those schools are the two older schools near Bush.

  15. again, there are too many unknowns. if you honestly believe lives would not have been lost, then you're certainly not a realist. he was just too focused so that his mission would be fulfilled. imagine him walking into a cafeteria. it certainly could have been worse than it was.

If he had tried the same shooting in the classroom scenario, but if the doors effectively held as a barricade, then less lives would have been lost in the building if the doors held as effective barricades. Obviously there would be no warning for the first classroom he finds, but the other classrooms would get the hint and close their doors.

The French class had a warning that he was out there.

You are correct, though, that the killer probably held a plan B in case that scenario failed.
