Oops, my mistake. I should have said the Woodlands High School was crowded...

Listening to the story on KTRK, they mentioned that the two developer guys had already done a similar project in Denver. Anyone here ever seen it? If so, what did you think of it, and would it work here?

Speaking of the Houston City Council meetings...
What's this all about???? (found in the minutes of today's council meeting)
"20. ORDINANCE granting the petition of THE WOODLANDS LAND DEVELOPMENT COMPANY, L.P. to include certain land in Montgomery County, Texas within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Houston; expanding and extending the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Houston to include all of such land in accordance with section 42.022B of the Texas Local Government Code"

Galatas was also on the Grand Parkway Association Board of Directors for years.

I agree that it is beautiful, but on some hot still summer days, the water smelled mighty funky wafting up in between P.F. Changs, Cheesecake Factory, Brio and Rockfish. Also heard recently that Brio and Rockfish not doing too well.

No, it's been gone a long time now. It was very nice when it existed, though. You really should come back to Houston, you seem to miss it here an awful lot...

No, and I hope for the sake of where you live, that Wal-Mart isn't reading your post. IOW, be careful what you wish for........

I bet no one else remembers this: There was a restaurant on the corner of W. Belfort & Chimney Rock next to the (then) Weingartens which had little horses on springs arranged in a semi circle for kids to sit on while they ate their burgers.
I don't know what else they served or what the name of the place was but I LOVED that place back in the early/mid 60s.
I lived close by so we walked or rode our bikes up there a lot, mainly on the way to Westbury Square to go eat at Ruppleheimer's. I think the restaurant you're thinking about was Britton's or something like that. When I was a teenager, my first job was a clerk at the TG&Y, next door to Weingarten's!

What this have to do with Woodlands and Conroe?
Sorry if lumping a story about Huntsville into the category specifically reserved for Woodlands and Conroe was either confusing or upsetting to you, but hey, what a great story about Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Tx.!

story about Incredible Pizza in Conroe area
BJ's has a location that's been open for about a year or so already in Willowbrook area. Very nice atmosphere, good pizzas and our kids love the cookie pizza!

new churches in Harris and Montgomery Counties
Here's two that were curiously not mentioned by the writer of this article who did such a thorough job otherwise: Saint Edwards Catholic Church in Spring and Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic School in the Woodlands area. Saint Ed's should be complete in December, just in time for Christmas and Saint Anthony's dedication ceremony is in September with Bishop Joseph Fiorenza. (Saint Edward's Catholic School is expecting record enrollment this year due to the mold remediation efforts taking place at Northampton Elementary, expected to take three to six months or longer to complete.)

This may have been Terry or Tony LaBonte. One was the father, the other his son who raced later also. I remember hearing about the LaBonte name in connection with Meyer Speedway.I remember reading about a guy named (I believe) Terry Chumley who was a big hotshot driver and local favorite there. -
As you head north on I-45, just as you cross Cypresswood, there is a small stand of pine trees next to the highway. That is an old cemetery. You used to be able to see it from the freeway, but the new freeway was built over and around it.
This is the Wunsche Cemetery, just south of Spring High School on the east side of the freeway. Perhaps you've heard of the Wunsche Cafe in Spring...

From the article:
"The Heart of the Park restoration ends the $32 million first phase of a master renovation plan initiated by the non-profit Hermann Park Conservancy (formerly Friends of Hermann Park) with the city Parks and Recreation Department."
Can't wait to see what's planned for Phase Two, great job so far!

Quote from the story, in the category of what the hell did he just say?
"There are absolute pockets of excellence in our midst," said Robert Mosbacher Jr., chairman of the Harris County Public Health Care System Council.

Brooklyn Bagels is located near College Park High on Honor Roll Drive.
They will be making stops at the school, every hour on the hour, delivering bagels to teachers and staff, throughout the day. They also say that students have the phone number to BB keyed into their cell phones and BB will meet the students at the school in the morning with their bagel order, so the kiddos won't be late. I'm wondering if the new high school has Starbucks coffee coming out of their water fountains, too....

In 1987, Monterey House declared bankruptcy. Showbiz Pizza Corp. bought them out and has operated them ever since under the name of Mexican Restaurants Inc., which also owns Casa Ole and Monterey's Little Mexico and Tortugas. They franchised the market on poor quality and bagged foods. The current president is Curt Klowacki who was previously at Steak and Ale restaurants. I wouldn't recommend eating there...

Sorry, mods/Editor, if I have "hijacked" the Woodlands/Conroe thread header and turned it into one that encompasses not only those two places, but also Tomball/Klein/Spring. Maybe you could consider changing the header to something like: Anything north of F.M. 1960 and south of Dallas!

In reference to an earlier thread, I think bears repeating; in terms of pedestrian-friendly, check out this story about Gonzalo Camacho in the Houston Press and his idea of a tunnel under I-45 to preserve green spaces above:
story in Houston Press about Gonzalo Camacho
Gonzalo Camacho is someone whom I would consider a Houston visionary!
