  1. Very creative idea! I'm a bison eater, so it doesn't appeal to me, however I am tempted to try it for 2 reasons:

    1. It is so creative, and looks really, really good in the photos.

    2. I was overwhelmed when Flinch retorted, "Not just chicken, fried chicken". Has a nice, Southern, down-home ring to it.

  2. Genetic inclination to both alcoholism and obesity is pretty exciting...

Anyhow, mate with someone whose family has been in this country for at least four generations. Unless they have an Ozark-styled family tree, at least your children will likely have American Indian blood in them. Then if someone asks them dots or feathers, they can say, "Both!"

Alcoholism, check! ( Why don't they have a check mark in the symbols library? ) Very exciting. I'm actually at Spec's DT, and you might guess what I'm purchasing ( Have cart ).

Dots & feathers tryst ....Wow! Can't wait for the transformation... then ALL Indians would yell at you while they're kicking your ass!

  3. It's me. I moonlight as a tarsier on regionally specific architecture forums, but by day I do political satire.

No, No... it's me. I moonlight as a Hindi antagonistic prankster on a regionally specific architecture forum, but by day I fall flat on my face trying to perform comedy!

Note: I did it again Red, sorry....

  4. NASA is already developing robots to handle that task. There are commercial vehicles capable of taking the robots into orbit. We don't need anyone's permission to service the satellites. Other than Hubble, I don't recall the space shuttle doing much of that anyway. The only losers will be high school science projects. NASA doesn't need to be in the satellite repair business. NASA needs to be in the research and development business.

NASA is in that business, but satellites require tremendous R&D still. The technology is still in the infant stages of things that are possible. There also have been very few shuttle missions that did not have DOD missions as part of their tasks. ALL of these dealt with satellites. You are correct that all of the newer ( Last 20 years ) satellites are self correcting, and can do self - maintenance, as well as some with remote control. There are, however, critical missions that exist. One recently was the older satellite that went AWOL, and lost orbit, threatening to re-enter & spew Zeon into the atmosphere. This had to be handled by outside manipulation. I am not worried about deep space, or return to the Moon. I am concerned about orbital prominance, as well as superiority.

  5. I'm no satirist, I'm in sales and asset management.

Don't get your panties in a wad, Hanuman. Perhaps we should get some red wine in you and your sense of humor will return.

Then sorry to offend you, but tragedy is some of the best fodder for humor. Most people would rather laugh than cry in the wake of something monumentally bad.

I suppose it's a good thing you weren't hanging out with me and my friends the morning of 9/11. ... but kneejerk reactions are much more fun, aren't they?

Reverse satirism! LMAO! Sales & asset management isn't satire, and not scripted!!! Ha! Ha! Lol! You ARE funnier than Colbert!

O.K. Flinch I took your suggestion, and began on a bottle of St. Francis, 2002 old vines red Zinfandel right after your earlier post. A little Italian food @ Palazzio's, not a good wine list, but they let me bmow. Came home, and finished a collector bottle of Mondavi. I'm in good shape now, after my knee-jerk ( Proper spelling btw) reaction to your post.

Everyone has been kind enough to point out my short-sightedness in regard to Colbert. I read what you & your friends did on 911 to cope with it. The difference is, I did not have that luxury ... to deal with it in that simplistic way. I live with it still today, as my neighbor of 27 years & her 3 children depend on me & my family each day to get one more hour past without breaking apart. Her husband, and the kids' father was on the first plane that hit the first tower. The last I will say about it, in honor of he & his family. You didn't know why I over reacted - now you do. Sorry, I'll try to hide my emotions a little better in the future.

Back on topic, we cannot allow our satellite technology to fall prey to asking permission to go up and fix them, from any other nation. There are things in orbit that are our real strategic strength. Mars is a dream, and the return to the Moon is not the essential role of the space program. Instead, the DOD program should be left in tact with NASA. If Colbert's visit can assist with the exposure needed to draw the proper attention to these subjects, then, BRAVO!

  6. I second all of this. I wonder if he's actually going to visit the city or head straight to NASA.

Also, the publicity for Johnson Space Center couldn't come at a better time.

I certainly agree! I have worked within this program for many years. We cannot afford another NASA crisis like we suffered in the 1980's from a financial point, and we absolutely must not become dependent on other countries to help us in space - we must remain the leader, and control our destiny there.

  7. Just to give you a little history, the Colbert Report started off as a sort of caricature of bombastic political pundit programs, particularly the O'Reilly Factor, who's host Colbert refers to as "Papa Bear". The show often parodies the O'Reilly Factor and it's segments from the previous day (e.g. - instead of the "no spin zone", there's the "no fact zone"). Colbert is a character, but amazingly one that is always turned on. If you're not in on the joke, you're probably not going to understand the brilliance of his character or his show. All of which is fine. Many interviewees unaware of this have been fooled/ensnared by his witty, charming yet clueless character, and the result is absolute hilarity.

Thanks Baracuda, Your explanation of the character brings better light to the type of satire that is leveled. I certainly admit to not being, "Up" on Colbert, and others. I suppose out of my ignorance, I was expecting humorous satire as Don Rickles might present. I see now that the characters are different. My neighbor today told me that they watch Colbert all the time, and reiterated how popular his act is. My work interferes with my T.V. viewing, and, I really couldn't name you any current movies either.

  8. You're correct. He's Stephen Colbert.

Why is it ok for you to make light of grave situations,

You're right, I'm so stupid... I just realized that you are a satirist as well, but I have to admit, Colbert is funnier than you...sorry.

Present the times that I've made light of a grave situation. You can't.

My comments on Colbert / 911 had nothing to do with defending, or damning George W. Bush. I was talking about a personal tragedy of the people - NOT politics. Let's wait until Colbert delivers a satire on President Obama, and uses the, "N" word, and see how funny you think that is.

  9. At any rate - should Mayor Parker acknowledge his visit?

I say, without reservation, yes. I have a great deal of confidence in Her Honor's quick wit and sense of humor.

He might have some fun at her expense, but I bet she'll come out looking good - and so will Houston.

I believe you are right. As a large city, we need all the good exposure we can get. I also believe that she has the right personality, and intelligence to play his style to her advantage. I would like to see this live.

  10. Our landscaper put in Bermuda Grass @ 2.5 years ago. It has really caught on, and I like it better than St. Augustine. It is so pretty that when we have backyard/pool parties, everyone wants to kick their shoes off, and feel the grass against their feet. I'm not sure what he sprays on it, but man, is it beautiful! You may want to switch out.

  11. You may or may not like his style and sense of humor. But he's one of the most brilliant satirists around. I suggest watching his speech at the White House Correspondents' dinner from a few years ago...one of his all-time best performances.

    http://video.google....83917758574879#

I have never seen him either, but if this is one of his most memorable performances, I will tell you emphatically that he's no Will Rogers. Not only do I not find him funny, but he is insulting as well. I was at least watching, until he stated that Bush stood on top of things including, "Rubble". That, in my book is sacrilege. I had three business associates who died in the 911 attack, who had wives, and family, and children. They are now, without. NOT funny!

  12. Not really as 4 of the complexes are under Cinco Ranch Control and according to CR HOA they are going to keep a tight rein on the management, etc. But almost all of them are relativly new so only time will tell how they keep on the management companies. The other 2 units across the West Park I don't know who controls those and they are relativly new as well so again only time will tell.

The average cost to rent a one bedroom at the one's I checked was around $800 +++ On up.

Cinco was planning to build another complex on the corner of Mason and Fry which would have pretty much put 5 complexes within a 5 mile radius back here and there were many unhappy homeowners who bought out here under the lies of all land was going to be used only for Lotted homesites, schools. But then again Newland didn't care since the apartments are not by the lake homes or Bayou Oaks areas.

From my understanding they pulled the plug on the other complex because of something they deemed suspicious and shady about the management company that was trying to build it. It may still happen one day for all I know if someone comes in and gets thier stuff in order. If they do it will cause quite a stir as some very long time residents I know say they will probably move if more apartments come.

I can't say who lives in the complexes but was told by a couple people that it was mostly Hispanic, Black and Asian but I cannot vouch for that or back up those statements.

Perhaps if thier is someone on the boards who lives in one of the complexes can say.

I would say that people live in those complexes. As long as management is held accountable, then they should be an asset to the area. Problems arise though, when the $800/Mo. one bedroom is home for 15 people, and the management fails to address it. I've lived in a lot of apartments growing up, with my father poorly educated, and didn't speak much english, and learned what suffering was. I suppose people outside our horror looked at us with fear in those days. In fact, we didn't "Live", we just, "Existed". My reason for going all the way with not only my education, but fighting for my strata in life. I choose not to live in that again - or, around it again. I have worked very, very hard, and overcome huge problems to get where I am. So, it is not bigoted for the home owners who, "Have" to be fearful of the risk of losing their investment.

  13. I have always protested my own property taxes but now that I no longer live in Houston it's just not feasible for me to do it myself. Can someone recommend a company that protests on your behalf. Obviously O'Connor being the largest. I'm just looking for suggestions from people who have actually used one of these services.

    Thanks!

Missjanel, If you are not in the larger metro area any longer, then tax protests are a cinch, and very easy. I lived in one of the smaller counties around Harris county for many years, and never had a problem with tax protests. All I had to do is go in during the appointment times, and drink some coffee, and talk to the reps, who were very nice, and professional. If you want to use these services I would surely check their BBB rating first. I have always considered it a priviledge to be able to defend myself, by myself.

  14. We were all out back and had no bikes or buckets. Seriously, were you there?

I was there Dude, and not everyone was out back. I was talking to the bartender, as my wife couldn't make it.

Were you the Dude with the Dynamo shirt on?

that was me. u should have said hi.

Yeah, Next time I'll buy you a drink. I'm a little shy on first meetings, and usually don't reveal myself. Next time I will... Good time though, Huh?
