It would have been even more efficient if it were just a box.

NASCAR? Yuk, we just need to get Indy Car and Le Mans back.
-
The location was right in the neighborhood. I just an extra lot the developer had. Not on a major street and at the time not around any businesses.

Pershing is very contemporary. The Y is an abomination Spanish colonial, complete with red tile roof. The Mcgovern Library is a beautiful piece of architecture, with a butterfly roof, that pays homage to all the mid century modern houses that surrounds it.

The new Braes Heights fire station is finally going up. And from the look of the steel frame, its very contemporary. I'm glad. We don't need another stupid spanish colonial piece of crap life fire station 1. Its on Stella Link just south of Bellaire across from Pershing. That corridor is really shaping up to be a nice neighborhood. Only a few run down businesses remain.
Nevermind, here is the rendering, its not as contemporary as I had imagined. Another fake red brick fire station. Looks like David Weekly designed it. Terrible.

Michael Graves. I know he's not popular with architects now, but when I was at school, he was "cutting" edge. I still love his work and of course he was part of my youth, the same reason I listen to first wave on XM.

Houston doesn't need parks, all our houses have large enough yards. Compared to New York and LA.

The Panamera is awkward looking in photos, but I'm sure that when it goes down the street it won't be mistaken for another make. And that's the idea behind it.

My dad used to take me to Kemah when I was a kid. I wouldn't dream of taking my daughter there. Family place? Maybe if you hate your family.
Well you're such a cool dude.

Gut the inside and turn it into the world's largest dog park.

Texas Woman's Hospital. Terrible hodge podge of brutal architecture.

Did you ever go to Kemah before Landry's bought and ruined it?
Heck ya, loved going to the Brass Parrot, it was my group of friends "secret" hang out, but please don't tell me that you consider the boardwalk a failure? That place is great, in fact, I wish Landrys would expand it. If you think its ruined now, then that's just evidence of self loathing. Note to all you high and mighty, just because its popular doesn't make it bad.

You are so far off the mark, you are not even in the same county. Most everyone that expresses disdain for this company has very specific and personal reasons. Some have specific information that led to the opinion of the owner and the company. I will not go into my reasons on this forum, other than to reaffirm that you have no idea what you are talking about.
BTW, if you look around at my posts, you know that I am a Houston homer, not the self-loather that you attempt to paint me.
Wow, why so defensive? And did I single you out when you didn't even respond to the OP?
-
Why the hate for Landry's. Its the typical self loathing Houston mentality. That's why out of town businesses come here and take over from local businesses. I wish Houston kept and grew Randall's, Oshman's, Foley's, etc. I for one am hoping Landry's can keep its act together. Houston needs more companies that do business outside of Houston and bring profits home.

Yup those are the ones. The Blair House is the last of the lower income apartments in that area. At first I'm sure everybody was for its destruction. Only problem is that the property value is so high that the only way to recoup the investment is to build high density apartments. They have built a similar development down just further south on Stella Link and N. Braeswood.

I heard they also want to get rid of the basement and the stuff they have there.

I haven't read the whole thread but everytime I pass by I shout in my head "What the heck was the hurry to demolish Astorworld"? So that it could sit vacant for 4 years? Ridiculous. They should have just kept it open until they had a real buyer. Houston got screwed.

I'm glad UST can't buy anymore land to expand. Great architecture happens where there are boundaries. Eventually they'll have to infill their campus instead of having it spread out. My one gripe about UH is that its got the case of urban sprawl. They need more infill projects. Heck you almost have to sprint across campus to make it to classs with the 10 minutes they give you in between!

This will show how old I am, but I remember when Cafe Artiste used to be Chicago Pizza. Loved that place, only because they served beer to an under-aged me!

They also own the giant apartment complex Richmont Square.

the point was
F. Texas has concerned themselves too much with trying to put a university in every fool like royce idiot west area instead of having top universities
This just proves you're crazy! This whole debate is making MORE top universities! And gee, that's mighty elitist of you to say Texas is trying to give EVERY one of its citizen access to higher education. Go back to Austin and make sure to give Rick Perry a nice wet one!

Is looking like its going to be a master-piece! I love the way it engages the street, going right up to the setback instead of putting the parking lot in front. Has a butterfly roof. Really looking forward to this. Will take some pictures.
