I've just laid out Tech's ownership of Aggy. Would you like for me to now list UT's record of ownership of Texas A&M?

Let's steer back from your delusion and look at the reality of the situation facing Texas Tech and Texas A&M. Both schools want to make more money in order to compete with UT and its gargantuan budget (as well as OU). This game pays $10 million/each vs. $3.5 million. Do the math.

Here's a look at the most recent Athletic Budgets of the Big 12 schools and where they rank nationally:

Seems like A&M is whole lot closer to Tech than they are the Horns. Now, imagine for a second that "Dollar" Bill Byrnes doesn't get his way and has to forego the game in Dallas. Tech then picks up OSU for the JerryWorld game. The Aggies forego the $10 million that JerryWorld was offering and Tech is laughing all the way to the bank.

I agree with Midtown Coog, believe it or not, that there is no Tech/A&M rivalry. To Aggies, Tech isn't on the same level as A&M is. You have the Aggies, Longhorns, Sooners, Cornhuskers and then everyone else in the Big 12. Tech isn't on the same stage. It's hard to build a rivalry when both teams aren't at the same level. I know Tech fans hate to hear this b/c they believe they belong at the same level, but until Tech starts winning conference titles in any sport, they'll stay the little brother to the bigger schools.

I've heard current Aggie students might feel more of a "rivalry" but to old Ags, we don't even entertain the notion. Texas is our one and only rival. To begin a "rivalry" game with Tech would be to lower our reputation to Tech's level, something we don't want or need.

I agree with JT that HOT lanes and Diamond lanes are the way to go.

As for commuter rail, I believe there would be demand. A good comparison might be to look at rail ridership from the North Dallas suburbs. I agree that I don't think Cypress residents want buses running around here, but I do think they'd be receptive to commuter rail.

BTW, "Dirt Aggie" went to UT undergrad, nimrod (shaking head). As for Houston's brilliant HOV and Metro's superior planning...I think common sense wins this argument. If it were so great, why don't you see everyone doing it? Why haven't more cities emulated Houston's brilliance? Only tortured logic could surmise that a single managed lane is better than 3 or 4 lanes (which could be used as managed diamond lanes) that were removed from the freeway to make one Houston-style HOV centerlane with concrete barriers.

JerryWorld is offering more $$$ than the Cotton Bowl is offering, it also helps that Tech/A&M will have a newer and better venue all to themselves (rather than piggybacking on Texas/OU's long history in the Red River Rivalry. They're now talking an estimated $5 million/per school each year for this game, which is pretty significant money because in a regular 2-year home & home exchange, the home team is the only team to get the gate receipts.

Under the current setup:

Year 1 @ A&M - A&M gets $3.5 Million, Tech gets $0

Year 2 @ Tech - A&M gets $0, Tech gets $3 Million

Whereas JerryWorld is offering:

Year 1 @ JerryWorld - A&M gets $5 Million, Tech gets $5 Million

Year 2 @ JerryWorld - A&M gets $5 Million, Tech gets $5 Million

Therefore, A&M which pulls in about $3.5 million per HOME game and Tech which pulls in about $3 million per HOME game would now get $10 million/each during a typical home & home series over 2-years. That's around $7 million more to each school than they would've had during a typical home & home exchange. Of course, if for some reason A&M doesn't do it, they've got OSU as a standby opponent for Tech...so there's an opportunity cost involved for A&M. If they don't jump on it, two of their Big 12 South brethren will both be quite a bit richer and will enjoy more opportunites for exposure in the nation's most fertile recruiting ground.

It's no wonder Bill Byrne and Gerald Myers are so excited about this game. Fans of both schools who were decidedly opposed to moving a valuable home game seem to be warming to the idea as well now that JerryWorld has made their pitch.

As somebody who's seen Metro spend years and tens of millions of our tax dollars on studies and projects that wind up going nowhere...and the half-ass solutions they come up with (ie. single HOV lane that removes several lanes from the freeways rather than more diamond lanes) I think anything that kicks them in the butt is a good thing. While they goof around with trying to shove dangerous trains down busy city streets and neighborhoods that don't want them, then ignore/backburner the single largest area of demand. Commuter Rail. People want it. They want it bad. There'll be no problem meeting the Federal ridership figures with trains running down the major commuter corridors.

So many pitfalls to look out for. Developers figure what buyers don't know won't hurt them (right away, at least). Of course, they also don't tell people how bad it is for you to live within a half-mile of a major freeway either. Prolonged exposure to higher levels of emissions, spills, etc. Worse for people living near major interchanges where you get double to triple the prolonged exposure.

That sounds like good news. So basically, we can startup commuter rail faster than the planned 2011 date because of a common sense solution that went over Metro's head?

I guess I'm just uncomfortable with officials covering up accidental exposures of highly infectious diseases at the local bioweapons lab.

Talk about knowing the history of the land. When I lived in Midtown, there was a large open field located about a block over from West Gray that was surrounded by townhomes and some renovated warehouses that have become lofts. Its a popular dog walking area, that many wanted turned into a park. Of course it would've become townhomes if not for the fact it was the former site of a large Icehouse and its apparently a toxic site (benzene, I think).

This would be one of the drawbacks of having such facilities on campus.

AUSTIN -- Three Texas A&M University researchers became accidentally infected with a highly contagious biological weapons agent last year and then university officials covered it up, an Austin-based watchdog group alleged Tuesday.

The infections were confirmed in April 2006, but the university did not report them to the Centers for Disease Control until recently, in violation of federal law, the watchdog group alleged.

Personally, I'd like to see them attract more mainstream acts. There is concern about damage to facilities when you attract certain types of acts, but they could and should go after secular music.

If the Berry Center was built for HISD inside Loop 610, it would skyrocket and begin to pay for itself as Texas Southern and Prairie View (if they have a game that's not on campus) would rent it out for football and they could bid for all conferences, youth athletic events, etc. as it's close to the action.

I don't think they built this thing with Texas Southern or PV in mind. Not exactly your 'cash cows'...unless you're an administrator there.

The center right now is before its time and by the time the area matures, the Berry Center II will be needed and Berry Center I is obselete...and with the CFISD area not known as a hoops hotbed, don't expect capacity crowds anytime soon....With Katy's arena off I-10, Campbell Center by the airport, etc...it's going to be hard for CFISD to rent out the building for regional athletic events...

- Everybody and their kid brother wants to play in the Berry Center. They've got a high school football game scheduled for ESPN National Television this fall. It was enough to make the former 'Katy' Copperheads pick up stakes, change their name and move to Cypress to play in the Berry Center. There are some 750,000 people living in CFISD. The Center features plays, musicals, ice shows and other events. The area around the Berry is booming with development, with the upscale Towne Lake development going up right next door.

That lake near the Transco Tower right off the feeder has that "tidy bowl" look.
