  1. I like that map too.

However, I think you'd have quite a lot of upset folks in Champion Forest who've been sending their children to KHS since time began there in the 1970's.

I think it more realistic to start that boundary line at the RR tracks near Cutten (to include the new Vintage Park area in the new HS zone).

    Other than that, great map!

  2. I agree, however they should not practice this at the expense of others. The KHS plan is nothing more than pandering to the wealthier KHS families. If I lived in the South end of the District I would be FURIOUS since they were wanting a new HS to relieve pressure off of KF, instead the district expanded KF, and it is still overcrowded.

That is one way to look at it, but rationally speaking they have to relieve overcrowding at KF and the only way to do it is to take those residents on the nearest side to the next school and send them there. The departure of those neighborhoods won't have any effect on KFHS other than allowing immediate enrollment relief, enabling a higher student-teacher ratio and more individual instruction and attention for kids that desparately need it.

  3. They SHOULD do everything they can to keep residents happy and ensure safe, productive learning environments for students that want to learn. Spring ISD could learn a thing or two. I think Klein residents and school board members have learned from Spring ISD's downfall. They've seen what happens when residents want to revolt.

(Spring ISD should rezone all of their North FM 1960 residents to Spring High so they can at least have one good remaining school feeder zone rather than 3 bad ones).

  4. Are they still planning on shifting enrollment Westward to alleviate overcrowding and future growth in the KF zone?

I had read in the PASA report that neighborhoods on the North side of FM 1960 (and some right on the South side) would be rezoned to Klein in order to make room for additional growth in that Southern part of the District that stretches all the way to Inwood Forest.

  5. I've been encouraged by Precinct 3's efforts to create major roads that are "boulevards" with medians. They've also made efforts to plant trees along these medians. A good example nearby are the recent plantings on Telge Rd. I imagine they'll do the same for the Huffmeister expansion, which is coming along now.

Unfortunately, Precinct 4 chooses to go a different route, opting instead for massive asphalt suicide lanes (a la FM 1960 and Louetta from Champion Dr. past I-45). For continuity's sake, I called Pct 4 to request that they plant trees in the medians on Louetta between Jones Rd. & Malcomsen and they said they "don't do that". Some nonsense about mowing. The only option is to contact County Engineering and arrange some sort of deal between the County and the local neighborhoods, which in this case would be Heatherwood, Villaggio, Waldwyck and Gettysburg and part of Lakewood Forest. If anyone from those neighborhoods would like to adopt that part of Louetta you can click here:

If you want to landscape it and plant trees on it like the rest of that stretch of Louetta, you can call County Engineering at 713-956-3000.

  6. I miss Dillas.

I corresponded with the owner who seemed to indicate that at the last moment he had a chance to save it (the developers changed their mind) but he'd already sold off the equipment or something like that. Agree, it had a great atmosphere. We liked to take the kids there.

Here are some renderings and info about the new Treeline development:

  7. Stone Gate is nice and offers a neat Links-style golfcourse. The largest portion of land off Barker Cypress that is undeveloped is going to be part of the Towne Lake development which will consists of upscale homes $250's to the $Millions, a 300 acre lake with boats and marinas, a waterfront and a retail/restaurant/corporate quasi-Downtown (in the portion that borders 290).

You may also really like the Fry Rd. Corridor. There's nothing much below the $250K price point and there's a great golf course in Blackhorse. Bridgeland is coming along very nicely and Cypress Creek Lakes and Cypress Creek Ranch are quite nice.

If you like wooded enclaves, some of the best neighborhoods in Cypress are located North of 290. Check out Coles Crossing, Longwood, Stable Gate, Lakes of Rosehill, Rock Creek, Lakewood Oaks Estates, Lakewood Glen, Northlake Forest, and a dozen others.
