That is good to hear, mrfootball. I would hope the HEB sign faces the freeway, where it would be more acceptable to see a taller sign (also, I am so excited about the HEB that they can do no wrong in my eyes). I just hate that when driving North on Barker Cypress you get a gorgeous swath of undeveloped tree lined creek land and a giant sonic sign. Do you happen to know how they contacted Sonic or the Franchisee? Just an email to the website perhaps? I just figure the more people who complain the more likely it is that it will get lowered.
Also, to jack my own thread, I wonder what has stalled the development of the land they cleared on the SW corner of Barker Cypress and Jarvis, what goes in there could really make or break that area in terms of natural beauty.
There was an ongoing saga about it on the Coles Crossing Group. Some people called Sonic, who put them in touch with the franchisee who lived in Coles.
As for the swath of formerly heavily wooded land near Cypress Creek that had the huge old sycamores and other hardwoods, it appears some dick developer came in and razed it on spec. I'm not sure what is going in there. Those were some really beautiful woods, hated to see them go without any sort of plan for development. It makes that billboard on 290 that says "Quick, go right to the trees!" look like false advertising as the Coles developer (Jefferson) cut way too many and now the HOA is having to do an aggressive re-plant throughout the neighborhood. A shame because, it used to be as heavily forested as Longwood.

Read an article in the Sun about NW Houston and the huge growth out here. It said the fastest growing area of Houston was the aread around Spring-Cypress bordered by 290 and I-45.
PS - Cy-Woods is located on Spring-Cypress (Fry/Cypress-Rosehill is the next intersection up).

Drove by the development this afternoon. Coming along nicely. It's going to be a great addition.

Marty do you know any details about that particular store at Coles Crossing or the one at Vintage Park? Excited to have both in the area now. We've had to drive all the way to the Klein store in order to avoid Kroger.

Chronicle has an article about it. They're going to build 15 new schools including a new HS in 3 years to relieve Klein HS and allow for movement of students from the overcrowded Klein Forest over to Klein. It would seem plausible that they would make 1960 the new boundary (though page 79 of the PASA report has the new Klein boundaries crossing over 1960 into what looks like Fountainhead - IMO, if they take Fountainhead, they need to rezone Greenwood Forest as well to even out those numbers b/w Klein and Klein Forest since there's more play in the Klein enrollment with the new HS being built to relieve it). Another HS will be built in 2015 to relieve Collins and Oak.

I've seen it. While it's not quite as bad as a towering highway sign, it doesn't fit. Many people have already contacted Sonic and the franchisee who lives in Coles Crossing. I understand they will be reducing the height of the sign. The new HEB sign? Well that's another story.

While the official estimates have us at around 5.4 Million in the metro area, many feel that is a flawed number that underestimates the number of undocumented residents in and around the Houston area. I've heard estimates that there are actually around 7 million living in the Houston MSA. Anyone else hear this?

I'm hearing that one of the new high schools will be built somewhere near Hwy 6 and West Little York. Don't know that's a certainty though.
It would seem rather unlikely that they would build a new HS near Hwy 6 and W. Little York as that's very close to Cy-Falls (unless they plan on completely changing that feeder zone). I would think that wherever the new HS go, it'll likely be in the Western/NW part of the district where the bulk of the new growth is. I think it highly likely that one will go in Bridgeland, perhaps deeper inside the development. Perhaps another near 290 & Fairfield.

Yep. Drove by the other day. They appear to be having a Grand 'Re-Opening.'

Are we still talking about this? The Berry Center is built. Get over it.

Safer because its more orderly. As it is now, you've got some idiots pulling into the suicide lane from either direction. I grew up in the 1960 area. It's going to be much better with green medians and turn lanes that bring some order to this fustercluck.
As for fewer accidents, there are fewer collisions with separated lanes, especially the most dangerous (head on collisions).
Imagine how bad Post Oak Blvd would be if it had suicide lanes rather than green medians.

West U is also home to the famous Darth Vader house that some plastic surgeon with tons of money built back in the late 80s.
Funny you mention that house. My best friend lives across from it. Looks like some sort of Illuminati clubhouse.
-
Funny that you say that, to me, FM 1960 effectively ends at I-45 or the Hardy...I forget that it goes all the way to Lake Houston.
-
If anyone wants to see an example of how much a difference medians can make, just compare Louetta from Cutten to 1-45 with Louetta from Cutten to Grant. Huge difference. They make for safer roads too.

Planning under way to revitalize FM 1960
Members of the grass-roots "Renaissance 1960" initiative want to hire an urban planner to create a plan for several community revitalization projects.

Dallas 7-Eleven converted to Simpsons-themed Kwik-E-Mart
Dallas Business Journal - 11:46 AM CDT Monday, July 2, 2007
Fans of "The Simpsons" TV show will be able to experience a little bit of Homer and Bart's world as a local 7-Eleven store has been transformed into a Kwik-E-Mart.
Fans of the show are familiar with the Kwik-E-Mart featured in the popular TV show. But Dallas-based 7-Eleven is bringing fiction to life, with the conversion of the store at Northwest Highway and Hillcrest Road in Dallas. The store was converted as part of a month-long promotion of The Simpsons Movie, due out July 27.
The 7-Eleven chain transformed 12 of its stores in North America to Kwik-E-Marts. The stores will feature products such as KrustyO's cereal, Buzz Cola and other Simpsons-related merchandise. The stores will not, however, sell Homer Simpson's favorite drink, Duff Beer, because of the movie's PG-13 rating.
The Dallas Kwik-E-Mart is the only one in Texas.

They're just very proud of their neighborhood...

Again...it's not just a football stadium...

Having been inside the building and toured the grounds, I can say that from an architectural standpoint, they built this thing to last. Sparing no expense, this is a first class facility. The stonework, the masonry, tile, even the door handles and other architectural elements. An extremely nice facility. Surprised they were able to get it all done for $81 million in today's inflated construction market. It'd cost nearly $100 million if they bid it out today.

I think they've found their new Elementary School mascot. The Bridgeland "Bears".

As far as the hospital district, I think an argument can be made about the hundreds of millions spent caring for illegal aliens. I'd much rather that money be available to care for legal residents. I'd rather not have public dollars going to educate their children that should not be here.
If you want to get into the particulars we can find all kinds of injustices with regards to taxation.
What about the Federal Income Tax system? Ever read the The Creature from Jeckyll Island?

Agreed, this area DESPERATELY needs a good bookstore. Since they closed the B&N at Willowbrook Commons we've had to go all the way to Champions or to Copperfield.
