I passed by it a couple of weeks ago and thought to myself how it sure could used a good scrubbing. It looks like a giant marshmallow thats been sat on and rolled in the dirt.

No one gives a crap about Macy's here. They were too used to Foley's. I'm sure a lot of people here could've told them that.
I miss Foleys. I tried to be open minded and gave Macys a chance but now I go to Penneys or Dillards. I am one of the many that dont give a crap about Macys.

EE Susan, hubby says you are correct, it was N of Telephone on Dumble. We don't remember if it is still standing? Or? By the way, I have a house for sale in Sunnylan[d] subdivision. See classified's for 5603 Truett. Thanks
Thanks. Its good to be right every now and then.

Wracking my brain but can't remember where Eastwood Baptist Church was. Was it on Dumble between Telephone and Polk? Help! I can't remember. Thanks in advance.

Seems like a very long time since I heard the phrase Sea Arama. Wonder if anyone remembers going there? Pics would be a trip.
Dad took me there every year for my birthday. We went there right after we ate at Gaidos. I have no pics but here are the salt and pepper shakers I bought on one of the trips. Its a little dark, sorry about the quality.

Danax posted an article on Oct 6th 2006 under Houston neighborhoods-Texas medical center. The link in his post has a pic of the club.

Wasn't Roy Rogers restaurant kind of popular for a while?
and I wonder if the real actor gave his ok to use his name? I understand you just cant grab a famous name and use it without consent, etc.
I remember a Roy Rogers by Gulfgate Mall close to Woodridge.

Were they moving dirt around when the fences were up? More than likely, the orange fence was a silt fence. They are used to keep debris and muck getting off the property.
I never noticed them doing anything. A temporary chain link fence was up for a few weeks and now its gone. Can't see that they had done anything.

Drove past the mansion yesterday and the chain link fence is gone. No orange mesh fence either. Makes one wonder what they are up to.

Well Thank You for the merge,I had misplaced the location of this original Thread. I finally found out how to add my photo file to e-mails ( new Camera No Skills ) How do you all add your photos as a picture and not as a few words and numbers to download. I want to add more but I only have 90.65k left to use for photos.

I've always wondered what the top of the Esperson looked like up close. Great pics. Thanks for posting.

It is directly across the street from the current Post Office, or rather slightly to the left of it. Now called Stephanies Bar. It operated up until about 1976. I clearly recall that they would stock the soft drinks in those wooden crates and have them on the outside of the building. Thats how trusting it was around there then. Too bad we dont have pictures of the little wagon cover on top of the building.
This also reminded me of the Chuck Wagon dog food commercial. The dog gets startled to see a tiny chuck wagon parading around the kitchen. Remember? lol
I remember that place now. It was close to Dismuke, and Hackney.. around that area. They had the cloth awnings to park under. I remember you would walk up, place your order in the little enclosed area and you could either eat in your car or on one of those concrete tables under the awnings. Ooooh, wheel burger!! They had the best onion rings in town. Thanks for the memory.

My brother was in the boy scouts for about 3 months back in 1965. He said he got out because he liked fast cars and girls a lot more than camping and bisquick.

isn't there one on bay area near space center? (where the kroger was)
Yes, theres one there but I'm in League City right where it meets Friendswood. We have no Arbys. The only time I get Arbys is sometimes for lunch at work. I work off Dixie Farm Road and go to the Almeda Arbys.

The store at NASA Rd#1 is being relocated to Eldorado Blvd. I think the move will happen next February.
Why do people build a perfectly good Home Depot and then relocate it a mile ot two up the road? We are up to our necks in Home Depots over here. How about just build an Arbys instead so I won't have to drive to Almeda Mall.

I know. Frankly though, I've been awake the whole weekend and don't really know what I meant by that response.
I guess you can just disregard it. Sorry.
Its ok.

You can sue for any reason you so desire. You can't win, but you sure as hell can be crowned Ms. Annoying Woman of the Year if that's what you're really after.
The sueing part was a futile attemp at lighthearted humor. My co-worker smoke Nazi already had Ms annoying woman of the DECADE all locked up.
-
Susan, the office building ban has been in effect for over 10 years. If the Nazi hasn't figured that out, you are probably OK.
Even the 25 ft part? Thats what she harping on. Can I sue her for being annoying?
-
Given that the City has virtually no plans for enforcement of the ordinance, the 25 foot rule will pretty much be a non-issue. Frankly, who is going to listen to a smoke Nazi complaining that a smoker is only 10 feet outside the door? The owner has no authority over someone on City ROW, the police are not going to take time away from fighting real crime to use a tape measure, and the City enforcement person is off at night. This is aside from the fact that in 10 years of smoking in front of buildings all over Houston, I have never once had the distance issue raised.
While I am quite sure that there are a few non-smokers looking to cause a stink over the 25 foot rule, I am even more sure that it will get them nowhere. I am also quite sure that bar owners will not be looking to inconvenience their smoking clientele more than they already will be. Those that think otherwise need only look at the opposition to the ordinance by bar owners in the first place.
No one in my building cares if the smokers smoke out in the smoking area or in front of the building. These people are our friends. But just wait.. Come Sept. 1st smoke Nazi will be out there with tape measure in hand. We really wish someone would drop a house on her. The boss made the mistake of making her saftey officer a few years ago because no one else wanted the job. Now she thinks shes SOMBODY!!

we were talking about this this past weekend. it does apply IF they don't have another permit to allow outside seating (on public property) which many don't. there are MANY owners who are trying to arrange some kind of outside seating area. since market squares back patio is theirs, it would be ok. but on the front sidewalk that would be a different story. at least that's what the owner told us.
LOL i see why you need a beer now.
Thanks musicman. Oh.. I did drink a beer this weekend with no side effects. Doc says it was a reaction to the alcohol and the bactrim.
-
I dont smoke but a few of my friends here at work do. The smoke Nazi just told them that they cant smoke out in the side yard which is the designated smoke area because it is not 25 feet from a door. The only people that use this door is the people that go out there to smoke. She says that what the houston ordinance says. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the ordinace? I think shes taking this a bit far. The boss man doesnt seem to care who smokes where. Its the smoke nazi that has the problem. Our company only has 14 people and of the 14 only 1 is a bad egg. She has nothing to do but find something to gripe about. No one likes her, no one talks to her. She has now earned the new name of Spider Pig. Help me find a way to shut her up!

Last night on Channel 39 they did a story on how dilapidated the building has become.
They said it was 86 years old?
These were the 1st interior shots I had seen in over 35 years. Rain water seeps in through many of the frames of the windows and mildew and mold are at an alarming rate. HISD is asking for thousands from the city to renovate, etc. This place was OLD when we all went there and we had to tolerate it. Kids these days are soooooo lucky to get publicity and $ from the city. I just don't recall any hoopla at all in those days. We just accepted it and went to school. IMO they should just demolish and build brand new. Why not? in other upscale nabes thats what they would do. I hate when they just do a bandaid/cosmetic job.
Then again, this part of town normally settles for whatever crumbs they through their way.
My calculation from the date it was built over the front door makes it 82. Remember Vert.. They are channel 39 reporters, not REAL reporters. I saw the same report. It was the first time I had seen those halls in 35 years. But when I last saw it it was two tone prison green, not gray. I must say I had forgotten all about the many pipes that ran overhead in the halls. I wish they would fix the old school up. The windows were replaced the year after I left because thats the year they got air conditioning and the old windows leaked way too much to hold in any cool air.

I don't know if it has been mentioned previously, but I think the Spec's in Midtown is slowly taking away some of Randall's market share (I think this is a good thing - it will force Randall's to reevaluate its business model).
Spec's has a reasonablly priced produce section, a great deli, a nice selection of cheeses, and of course.......a lot of booze. I generally get my non-pershible products at Fiesta once a month (toothpaste, shampoo, mayo, etc.) and visit Spec's a few times a week in between. Its a nice balance and am starting to notice more people doing the same.
The Randalls on 528 and Bay Area Blvd closed down a while back and it just opened as a Specs. Gotta love the irony.

she said it was caught VERY early so prognosis is good.

I remember the little devil guy too. I also remember it being where the record shop was. I think it was Hastings Records.
