  1. Well, the HEB on 18th is too small to have much of what we want and the selection at Foodarama is aimed at a slightly less affluent demographic, so Kroger is it for now (the Randall's on 34th is too far away). I was very disappointed that HEB didn't move into the old K-Mart space and open a bigger store, so it's Kroger for now. Trust me, I wish we had a real HEB for real shopping rather than just for Saturday morning milk runs.

I agree. I'm surprised that HEB hasn't opted for a bigger store somewhere else or hasn't tried to build a new one from the ground up.

That said, I prefer Kroger to Randall's. I think the difference in quality between the two isn't all that great (at least, not at the store at which I shop), and certainly not so given the difference in price (Randall's can be ridiculous, IMO).

  2. Found this little blurb from an article in today's HBJ and found it interesting, given the location. Could this intersection finally be seeing much needed infill? They've had parcels of land "fenced" off going down Eldridge for a couple of years but no movement.

Or is this going north of Westheimer?

    Anyway...

Indeed, Target is planning three new stores in the Houston area for 2007 and 2008 located at Interstate 45 and FM 646 in League City, at FM 1488 and FM 2978 in Magnolia and at Westheimer and Eldridge.

Sure to be suburban style but that huge swath of land really sticks out like a sore thumb in this part of the city/county (it's right at the edge).

  3. Well, let's look at other new residential highrises...

The Mercer is 400 feet at 30 stories

One Park Place will be 501 feet at 37 stories

Dominion Post Oak is 351 feet at 31 stories

Montebello is 330 feet at 30 stories

I know amenities will differ and that floor heights won't be exactly the same on each flor as what's in those other buildings but in general, it looks like a 38-story tower will net you somewhere between 425 - 475 feet.

Oh, wow! It's been updated pretty recently. Now HCTRA is tasked with letting the Fairmont/Red Bluff tollway construction contracts for a segment between BW8 and SH 146 by 1/1/2009...and the alignment makes sense.

And, strangely enough, the Port of Houston Authority and the City of La Porte are lead agencies on building an eight-lane freeway along Fairmont between Red Bluff and 16th Street, which is just shy of SH 146. The let date for construction contracts is 1/1/2015.

Suddenly land in Seabrook and La Porte is looking pretty desireable as an investment...

Given the rapid rise in population in League City and the gradual onset of highrise residential properties around the lake, I could see them wanting to move on this fairly soon, especially with the near completion of the Nasa Road Bypass.

  5. Umm...

BLVD place? might be a little discussion we've held here and there.

So they ARE indeed moving around land to get things started on the overall project. I'm well aware of the thread on the subject (including the closing of the stores in the existing complex) but didn't know if the current land clearing across the street was directly associated. Thanks for the info.

  6. Well, the Miami Bust was inevitable. They were depending far too much on people from other locations investing in the properties only to sell them (flippers) later. The average income in Miami does not lend itself for the mass purchasing of all the higher end units being brought to market and the natural "correction factor" is underway. It'll take a couple of years or so to even out some.

  7. Then wouldn't that mean they've been deleted if none have been not deleted?

There you go picking on the moderator's poor grammar (or failure to use a comma when needed).

    :)

But Subdude is right... several threads on the same topic flat out suck. It's distracting.

  8. I've always wondered why there weren't more highrises on the western stretch of Westheimer near the Galleria. Land is available and it would really be a "hot" location. If Kinkaid Alum's intepretations are true, then this would finally tap into that part of Uptown.

    Also:

They're clearing land behind the former Eatzi's on San Felipe. Anybody know for what purpose exactly are they doing this?

  9. Looking at the site(s) in person, you can immediately see the impact it will have on parking in that area, especially if you're wanting to go to a Rockets/Comets/Aeros game. I truly hope the Park Tower and nearby Discovery Green are successful, as the lots surrounding those developments will be even primer pieces of real estate than they are now.

  10. Either way that house was a dump and now it looks great. Could some changes have been made that would have benefited it? Sure but the fact that someone walked up to the plate and took on this challenge generates a lot of kuddo's from me.

In regards to landscaping they may be running into the same problem I have. The rain and more rain that we have received in the past 6 weeks. It has set me back and my landscapers tractor has sunk twice in the back yard trying to regrade. The gumbo soil at my house will suck your boots right off of you.

Anyhow again well done to the owner/flipper, that street has one less eyesore on it as does the East End. One house at a time.

    Scharpe St Guy

That's a good point. I also notice houses in places like Golfcrest, Park Place and Santa Rosa with similar problems. After a good rain, it's like everything seems to sink a half-inch or so.
