It's crazy how small this building looks when viewed from the south (coming up 288). Even though it's 24 stories it looks tiny compared to the rest of the skyline. It really reminds you how massive some of the office buildings downtown really are. Still, it's in a good spot that is highly visible from that angle.

Hmm.. when this news came out in February I heard that it was just updating the codeshare with Singapore Airlines. But that article states pretty plainly that they are planning their own service. I'm not sure if IAH-DME can support two carriers, but maybe Singapore would route their flight through a different city? Not sure where else would work. I guess Oslo maybe would have been a possibility before the Scandinavian Airlines announcement. Maybe Copenhagen, Hong Kong, or somewhere in India? Those all seem pretty unlikely, but I'm just speculating.

actually, imo, i don't view it as "bland"... but quiet, clean, as well as ultra modern. this is a concept illustration of the "luxury walk". as per neiman marcus, all the way through to saks fifth avenue.
this particular luxury concept, reminds me a bit of the "dubai mall's" luxury wing. extremely quiet, albeit, an understated elegance throughout it's area. not to mention, the "mall of the emirates" also in dubai, which has a really cool luxury concept. this concept, makes you feel as though you are partaking an indoor "rodeo drive" shopping experience.
i would give almost anything, if the "houston galleria" could ever accomplish the sheer and utter magnificence, as per the mall's in dubai, uae. once you've experience either of these two of the "world's largest shopping mall's"... you shall never feel the same way about shopping... ever again.
How do you decide what words to put in quotation marks? Is it completely random?
So it's going to be quite awhile before this new luxury wing opens? Assuming it'll take about a year after Saks moves to its new location to renovate, that puts it during the first part of 2017, or not for another three years. For some reason I thought it was going to be much sooner than that, but I guess it's more of a long term plan. Still, I'm excited to see the changes, and how they eventually incorporate the residential high rise. Although I'm not getting my hopes up too much on that, I remember Turnberry Tower never getting off the ground.

Not sure if you can tell from that photo, but there are actually four tower cranes up at this site now. Combined with Phillips 66 and the other construction sites, there are at least 19 cranes up in the Energy Corridor (including I-10 and BW8 south of I-10).
Make that 20. Saw another new one today. Not sure what it's for, as I haven't seen a thread about it on here, but it looks like it's a site on the corner of Town & Country Blvd and Attingham Drive, behind Barcelona Sporting Goods and next to Mac Haik Ford. Any ideas what this is? My first thought was the last City Centre building, but it's too far east for that.

I wouldn't be upset if (38) the parking garage across the street from MMP ended up getting canceled. Why put this directly next to the stadium???
With so many surface parking lots near MMP being developed (at least 5 blocks by my count), it may be useful for parking during Astros' games. Although it's not like anyone goes to games these days...

Woah. That's different. Doesn't look like anything I've seen in this city. Kinda cool though.

It's interesting how some buildings seem to go up extremely fast (this one, Sky House), while others are so slow (Sovereign, etc). I guess they're trying to get this one up quickly because of the possible lawsuit, and Sky House is fast because they build the same design over and over, but you'd think that if building this quickly was possible it would be beneficial for all construction to happen at a similar pace in order to deliver sooner.

Every single aviation-related thread turns into Onion talking about how United can do no wrong, what planes they have ordered, and insulting everyone who flies another airline or doesn't fly first class. It's pretty hilarious how predictable his responses are. On topic, this is a cool service that definitely is one of those only-in-Houston things. I can't believe how excited I get for a route that there is literally 0% chance that I will EVER fly (and probably 99.9% of other people in Houston as well). Still, it'll be fun to see a Scandinavian Airlines plane at Terminal D in the evenings.

Ok so it's a "new terminal", but it's in the same place as Terminal D (and part of C), and Terminal D will remain operational while it is being built in different phases. I didn't realize that Terminal F in Atlanta only had 14 gates, so I guess 15 is plenty if they are all widebody gates. I've heard that when all the European carriers are in during the afternoon D is basically at capacity, but if we can only accommodate 7 widebodies at once, then that explains it.
As for the 2 airlines discussing the A380, I would guess Emirates (almost certainly) and British Airways.

I'm unclear on the plan... are they going to build an additional international terminal in addition to this renovation? Because they are only increasing the gates from 12 to 15, which doesn't seem like enough.

Any updates on the work going on here? There's definitely a crane up and something being built behind the eastern 12-story building (not sure if it's 3 or 4). Is it another 12-story building, another 6-story building, or something else entirely? Whatever it is, it's kind of tough to see from the highway but it appears to be on roughly the 3rd floor at this point.

The opening line says the Houston Airport System "invited the public" to this master plan presentation and to provide feedback etc etc. Did anyone ever see that invitation or any hint of it anywhere? I would imagine they have another one coming up for the Bush Airport Master Plan. I hope I don't miss that invitation too.
I saw it on Twitter last week. I think it was this past Thursday at a hotel near Hobby.

Obviously the Mercer has to be in the conversation.

Looks like the underpass isn't happening...

But I wish they imploded it along with the building on the right (Days Inn).
Careful, statements like that will have the preservationists on this board at your throat in no time.

You fly how may times? Sorry United made $1.1 billion 2013. Suck up your sh.
Who are you even talking to? Just stop it. Every single aviation-related thread turns into you bashing people who don't fly first class on United 50 times a year. I would say take your nonsense to Airliners, but you were probably banned from that site long ago.

I'm pretty confident about this one too (as in <75% likelihood). I think the order of likelihood for the various major towers not being built for specific tenants getting completed are...
1. 609 Main (Hines)
2. Capitol Tower (Skanska)
3. 6 Houston Center
4. International Tower (Stream/Essex)
5. 5 Allen Center

Is that a common practice for high rises? I've never heard of that.
Very common for most buildings over a couple stories.

Something is under construction just south of this behind the office tower. I'm not sure if it is a parking garage or something else, but it doesn't seem related to this development. Anyone know about this?

Katy is not large enough to warrant speeding up construction of this road. There are maybe 12k ppl who live in Katy? Tiny.
Same for Cypress. Is that an incorporated city?
I cannot recall the last time either of these two jokes of a city ever annexed land.
I cannot recall the last time this joke of a poster ever made a knowledgable statement. Please stop talking about things you know nothing about. Clearly you've demonstrated that you've never spent any time whatsoever in any of the areas surrounding Houston. The actual Katy area, not the city limits because that means nothing in this case, as Trae mentioned, has a population close to 300k, which would make it one of the largest, if not the largest, suburbs of Houston. This highway was much needed, just because you aren't one of the many people who will use it doesn't mean it does not serve an important function to the people of West Houston.

I used to listen to Josh & Rich but they got kind of annoying, so I start listening mostly to Charlie Pallilo on 790. These days, though, the only show I listen to is the Blitz on ESPN 97.5 It's by far the best sports talk show in town. They do talk about gambling a lot and non-sports stuff as well, so I can see why some people don't like them, but Fred and AJ are hilarious and keep it real, unlike some of the people on 610 with their non-stop Texans love. (Although maybe this has changed this season, I haven't been listening, and I find it hard to believe that anyone could remain positive about the Texans after this disaster).

Not sure if this is the best thread for this, but it's active, so I'll put it here.
United just announced new international service from Bush IAH!!
New nonstop service to Munich and a second daily nonstop to Tokyo.
http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2013/11/united-airlines-to-launch-new.html
!!!!!!!! Now THAT'S the kind of announcement we've been waiting for (no offense to Atlantic City). This comes as a complete shocker to me, I had basically given up hope of getting any major new routes from United any time soon. An additional frequency to Tokyo makes a ton of sense, although this makes a Japanese airline starting IAH unlikely. Munich should be successful as well, although with 2 UA flights to Frankfurt plus the LH A380 that's a lot of capacity to Germany.

Not sure if this is thread-worthy, but here's our answer: Pearl Residences at CityCentre.

Edit: Actually this should probably go in the CityCentre thread, if one of the mods can move it.
