^^^ oh its all good my great pal bobruss. not to mention, from what we are now hearing upon various UT websites, the new basketball arena renderings are looking like a cool futuristic spaceship. i cannot wait to view them as well as the DKR stadium project.... wow...
When did you graduate from UT?

Definitely check out Axelrad, as it is AMAZING (and co-owned by several HAIFers)! It's also within walking distance of the Mid-Main rail stop.
Which HAIFers are the owners (if they are interested in revealing themselves)?

Guessing this is taking the place of the dirt parking lot between Cambridge and Ringess? I don't really have a problem with this, it's probably needed for VA patients/relatives, and it's not as if Hilton Garden Inns are known for their stunning beauty.

Holy crap that would be amazing. Definitely needed in this area as well.

I'm sure this is obvious by looking at the state of construction, but this will not be open for the Final Four as originally planned. Now supposed to open in September or October per the Marriott website (not sure if this was posted before but I didn't see it)

I drove by around 5:40 today and saw a few guys working, the first time I've ever seen anyone doing anything on site past 5 PM. So it's moving but just extremely slowly. Very little visible progress in weeks.

people go to flying saucer for the food?
Unfortunately they don't have them at this location, but the burgers at other Flying Saucer locations are really excellent. By far the best thing on the menu. The other stuff isn't bad either. But obviously the beer is the best part.

It reminds me a lot of that building at I-10 and 610 (SW corner) except without the weird green accents

Hmmm... was hoping for something a little more substantial. This is a very visible lot from the freeway, but I guess something is better than nothing.

Wow I'm pretty surprised, though I guess condos are booming. Someone should probably change the spelling of Almeda in the thread title.

Has this shrunk? The caption for the photo (which is likely wrong) says 16 floors, 15 + 1 parking, and the body of the article says 22 floors (15 + 7).

I like how there are people just hanging out in the parking garage.

Yeah, work is continuing but veeeeeery slowly. It feels like they have about 3 total guys doing the job. Maybe they hired the Block 334 crew (zing).

Is that brown area on the map at the corner of I-10 and Bunker Hill still supposed to be a Whole Foods?

Awesome. This place is really fantastic, for those who haven't been there.

5700 underground spaces? That sounds like an enormous amount, but I guess I don't have much basis for comparison. How many spaces are in the underground parking garage in the theatre district area?

Has work stalled on this one? I drive by this almost every day, and I haven't noticed any activity going on in several weeks. Maybe they are just doing work on the inside or I'm driving by at the wrong times, but previously it was pretty busy and now it looks dead, even though the exterior is pretty close to being complete and I doubt they would stop this close to completion.

I don't think they're planning on doing that anymore. I read somewhere that they abandoned that plan but I can't remember where I saw it so I can't provide a source unfortunately.

I believe this is the site of a wedding venue called the Wynden. My buddy is getting married there in February, and he said they told him that it'll be torn down shortly after.

Strangely enough, there is another Arabella in Houston (spelled Arrabella though).
It's a recently-completed (or almost completed) apartment complex on I-10 just west of BW8 where the old Room Store Furniture used to be. I wonder if Randy will have any issues with using the name, since this one clearly used it before?

Houston Beer
in General Houston Discussions
Posted
I think someone made a similar topic recently but I can't find it. I'm a major beer enthusiast (alcoholic?)... my taste is pretty eclectic but my favorite styles are probably Hefeweizen (LOVE both the No Label El Hefe and the Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier mentioned above), Barleywine, and pretty much anything bourbon barrel aged. I do like to try as many different beers as possible... if you're into beer and trying different brews, definitely check out the Untappd app... you can track/check in your beers and rate them and it's a good way of keeping track of what you liked. Although I've reached an alarming amount of check-ins and I'm starting to worry about cirrhosis. But totally worth it.
I've compiled a list of breweries in the Houston metro area, as I've been trying to visit them all. Might as well share it here (** = no tap room or tour to visit, bold are the ones that I've been to):
8th Wonder
11 Below
Brash
Buffalo Bayou
Karbach
Saint Arnold
SpindleTap
Town In City
Whole Foods
Fetching Lab (Alvin)**
Huff (Bellville)
B52 (Conroe)
Copperhead (Conroe)
Southern Star (Conroe)
Galactic Coast (Dickinson)**
Galveston Bay (Dickinson)
Texas Beer Refinery (Dickinson)**
Galveston Island (Galveston)
No Label (Katy)
Lone Pint (Magnolia)
Cycler's (Montgomery)**
Back Pew (Porter)**
Texian (Richmond)**
There are lots more in the works as well. Let me know if there are any open ones that I missed.
