  1. Now it just means it's legal, and hopefully along with that comes protection under the law. Let's say I become a stay at home dad in the future for any given amount of time. I now have a legal safety net if (God forbid), we did end up in divorce.

Have you seen any info about what the ruling means for common-law marriages? I would think it should apply now for everyone.

  2. As many of you are painfully aware of my gayness, I'm extremely excited about this ruling. I was engaged before this happened (and honestly forgot about it up until a few days before).

I'm just excited we didn't have to make a trip out of getting a certificate. The ceremony is already taking place here, so my laziness prevails!

Anyways, I know it's been tough on my redneck family in Louisiana. Oh well, less invitations to send out!

    Congrats!

Also, do you think there are a bunch of people rushing into marriage just because they can get married? Please don't think I'm referring to you.

I'm just worried there will be a wave of divorces a couple years from now which will have the neocons saying "see, told you it was the devil at play!" We have some gay friends who I'm worried will rush into it... and with any marriage... that's not a good thing.

  3. As someone with Asthma, I appreciate clean air since it.. well... let's me live better. I think everyone benefits from being able to breathe... so to me the science debate detracts from the simple fact that we need clean air to live. People against reducing air pollution levels (who can't get beyond their political beliefs) are just plain moronic and annoying. Here's a tip for you non-Asthma people... try breathing through a straw for a couple hours and tell me how you feel. That's how it feels on days when smog engulfs our city. People in China are experiencing these issues now (who don't even have Asthma) because they allowed business to trump health.

  4. Although the previous renovation job on Meyerland Plaza is outmoded, I don't think many of the stores there are suffering for lack of customers. Even people who live in million dollar mansions shop at places like Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, SteinMart, etc. Anyone who wants upper-end merchandise will find plenty of options just a short drive away in the Galleria, Highland Village and adjacent shopping districts.

Sorry, I was trying to say that the demographics of the area will easily support even more retail in this area. The current options are great but the center itself feels tired and the layout is built around the car. I'd also love to see more restaurants and retail fill up some of the concrete sea around it.

  5. I'm going to make a bold prediction here... when this thing is built (and we have flights leaving it that take a mere couple of hours to get to Europe or the middle east)... you'll see major oil giants leaving the energy corridor and Woodlands and flocking back Downtown. What self-respecting company will fly high priority business associates into Houston and then have them endure a car ride to a far flung suburb across town that takes almost as long as the flight itself?

  6. Old thread reviving... but does anyone know/have pictures of the old Woodlake at Gessner and Westheimer (currently an event/wedding center)? My dad was a projectionist there in the 80's and would take my 4yo self to work and let me climb around in the projectionist booth. I'd love to find some old photos/videos of it. I have a ton of memories of it and thought it would be fun to compare what my 4yo mind remembers vs reality. Thanks

  7. I hate this trend of trying to be cool... so let's all play nerf wars, sit together on couches or open rooms, and play together. I'm one of those millennial software guys they want to attract... but seriously? Give me an office with a window so I can close the door, listen to loud rock music, and let me work. I want to get home and hang out with the people I actually want to see instead of pretending I'm having fun playing ping pong while making small talk.

  8. I think we should be encouraging electric as much as possible... so a tax on them would be bad. Vehicle weight is the most fair. It would encourage people to drive smaller vehicles and may even lead to safer roads with fewer large suvs and pickups flying around.

  9. i want to say yes but can't remember who... harvey maybe? first phase will be a spec 400,000 SF office (up to 600,000 if they secure a major tenant), garage, some retail and a hotel with BP pushing for a particular major 4-star flag that already has a hotel in town. connectivity to the park will be a major focus and they are working some things out with the city to help that cause. this is an all cash investor so this one is happening - expect construction to begin 1Q16.

Let the battle of the faux urban developments begin. CityCentre vs CityCenterCentre! Who's going to claim to be more center?!?! Only the cars in the garage will tell.

  10. I'd be curious to see an analysis of flooding this time around vs past major events to determine if all the development out west is increasing flooding within town. While not scientific at all, seems long-timers around and on the news are saying there are roads flooding that have never flooded like this (even during Allison, etc.)

  11. This thread honestly completely confuses me. What exactly are you all trying to say or are concerned about? It seems like you're arguing for the sake of arguing. It is a conspiracy... well maybe not... but it could be... so we should sort of not but still be cautious?

  12. The government is not immune to lying, keeping important secrets or....treason. Our govt is hardly the moral compass of our nation.

I don't think anyone would argue the government tells the truth... they lie like any other organization has (from businesses to civic clubs all the way to the Catholic church). To extrapolate that into this ridiculous conspiracy theory is illogical... I could argue that since people breathe, they're going to steal something from me.

  13. I'll get a bit more excited if this (or 7200 Main) ever get announced. Or heck, even if they break ground on those apartments/Intercontinental Hotel

It seems to me that traffic congestion really holds the area back. I know OTC is in town but it has been ridiculous down there lately.. Whenever I tell anyone I live that general area the first thing they comment on is the traffic. I know the Galleria is awful as well but at least there are freeways cutting through

This place would be next to a light rail stop and large bus terminal... so that should help.

  14. The TMC is a juggernaut and I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. This is an area with a high concentration of wealth, tons of young employees, and millions of patient and family visits. Hence the upcoming developments down along S Main within the loop. Throw in Hermann Park and if they redo the dome... South Houston/TMC might be the new center of Houston one day.
