There was a crane type thing with a big ball on the end of it today on the parking lot. The parking lot was closed off too... interesting?

I talked to a worker there, and he said that both of the bridges would have retail (over Fannin and San Jac). and that there was a third bridge going to the garage (over Polk) that I believe will be ped only from what he said. He was Safety for crane ops.
Not while YOU were distracting him

In driving home tonight, The Reserve had a nice crowd, so I am certain that once the Pavilions opens, it should be in good shape. In addition, from where I work, I have a birds eye view of the construction and they have delivered the windows and glass, so I think the exterior is going to be a mosaic of the prefab/stucco work and windows. I think this HP has a great deal of potential if it can get some more high end retail, originally they had BCBG on the list and if that is true, they could continue to bring some high end retailors that will be a good draw for tourist convention goers and locals that want to go shopping without going to the Galleria. However, I am not certain if you remember but the old Sachowitz building, which is a beautiful piece of work next door to HP and Macy's, has just been sold to an institutional investor and it use to be a Department store, if another department store purchases the old sachowitz building or buys one of the surface lot, then you will have a critical mass in Downtown Houston shopping. Ideally, a Bloomingdale's in DT houston would be fantastic from a strategic perspective. Macy's would own the two largest retail spaces in DT Houston and own the retail market therefore, it could make it a critical mass. In addition with the great economy of Houston it would be an interesting strategy that could be beneficial to Macy's because so far Houston's economy in the nation seems to be holding up strong against the recession.
wat?

Has anyone else noticed this place doesn't have any exterior windows?

Its high time they give that giant marshmallow a chemical bath!!! Its gone from white to mold green, anyone who has passed by it recently know what I'm talkin about.
Can you say gigantic eyesore?!!!
And don't say it can't be washed, me and my cousin Rogelio can get it done with the following:
* A construction lift
* A power washer
* A case of Bud Light

Does anyone know why their are no windows on huge portions of the building, leaving an almost blank wall looking at it from I-45 S. I'm sure there's equipment in there but has anyone ever been inside or known someone who has? I've wondered about this for years.

"The site is located adjacent to the Williams Tower, the tallest office tower in Houston, which is connected to the Galleria via a tunnel and located near the Cosmopolitan high-rise condo tower," Jaggi said.

Could someone please subtract 1 from the "surface lots left in Downtown Houston" list... thank you!

I usually go to the Bubbles Car Wash on Westheimer Galleria area. But the last time they didn't do such a great job and wanted input of other locations, maybe some opinions on Mister Car Wash and which locations others go to. Or any other full service car wash places. Thanks.
I go to da crackheads on Scott and Southmore.
They want a rock so bad you can charge em' whatever you want and they'll leave your slab lookin' like a mirror.

The rep that posted here only mentioned January 2008 - nothing more specific. I guess it is time to make some calls.
I think its cool how they're able to pull off a controlled demo that close to Stowers. It'll be interesting to watch.

I think the timing and location are right. So it should prove interesting as to what HP does, but I think there is enough transient (hotel/convention business) and local (Houston Residents) traffic that it should prove profitable. What I meant to say was "plywood sheets" that are currently being put in, I assume that this is going to be covered up by whatever facade they have in mind. I'm just puzzled as to WHY.
Oh I know its gonna succeed, the Hyatt, Omni, Marriott, Humble Tower, Houston House, Four Seasons and Hilton are all walking distance and the Rockets games are gonna provide the built in night crowd.
Yeah I know the plywood you're talkin about, I guess they can't put up the metal sheeting directly on the metal frame, they have to nail it to plywood?
-
Do what, exactly?
Build HP.
I don't know about the wood paneling though but here's som random HOB pics. I wonder if our facade will look like this or if they're all unique. What is that, that same tin sheeting those townhomes in midtown are made of?

I can't believe these dudes had the balls to do this.
Agreed, but we are WELL on the way. Roughly two blocks of surface lot is already gone with the Discovery Green development. If the Embassy Suites goes forward (and I don't think we have any particular reason to doubt that it will), we will only have one block left with surface lots on both sides and one-half block with surface lot on one side (behind Josephine's). Not so bad, considering HP is still almost a year from opening.
What interests me the most is how it was said these kind of developments set off a mini-boom of development in the surrounding area. In any case, Denton couldnyt have picked a better spot. The area is literally surrounded by surface lots BEGGING to be turned into retail CASH COWS. A parking lot may bring in a good sum of money per day, but a hotel or condo? Tons more.

You got selective reading.

No, there was no hotel. There were plans for two apartment towers and one office building.
Whoa, hey, looks like you didn't know it all.
See for example this interview with the developer: http://swamplot.com/houston-pavilions-woul...lda/2007-08-27/
Guess I was right.
